Ashton Hagans Open Thread

There's going to be some talk about Ashton this week, I imagine, so I'll start a new thread devoted to talk about his situation.

A video has surfaced today from Snapchat showing Hagans flashing a significantly large amount of cash. There's no context as to where the money came from, but the timing of the Snapchat video and his suspension--if indeed it was that--can't be dismissed.

Also it obviously brings up a lot of questions that you know UK would rather not answer. Just a bad look all the way around.

I'm not going to link to the video but it's out there on social media so it's pretty easy to find. The video is reportedly about a week old.

Apparently Pilgrim put on Twitter that him being home for the Florida game was more serious than on the court stuff and his argument with Cal. I'm not familiar with how things work, but would an agent have anything to gain by giving a guy who's probably a second round pick cash?

What makes you say that? I saw the school issued a statement saying the video was "dated" and they investigated. But, there's certainly SOMETHING to a college kid having that much cash.

Yeah, at the very least it creates a situation where Kentucky has to answer questions about why Hagans had that money.

Also it just causes a distraction. Another one in Hagans' case. And this isn't the greatest time of year for distractions.

On another thread I was reading about the cash, it was suggested that Hagans one of the folks that took photos of LAST years kids....the ones that had the shots of new cars, etc. True or not, no way of knowing. Supposedly that money was someone else's and he had the pics taken. Dunno.
Poor timing. Also really bizaare it comes out NOW.

Almost like a goodbye wave in a way.

But like we know, a whole lotta these kids have received money from the go as an investment from shoe companies, agents, whatever. We are talking kids that go to Austin Peay and smaller places...the companies use it as 'seed money' JUST IN CASE something big happens. The bigger problem with that is if they use that money and say 'Go HERE.' Then its mighty bad.

Decisions like doing something like this at this time make me wonder about leadership qualities for the point guard.

Also gives question on whether Cal made the decision to sit him or he had been told by the compliance office there was something amiss. Like everyone says, bad timing.

This is one of, and possibly the biggest, off the court issues that Hagans has been dealing with recently. Just a lot of bad judgement by him.

Not sure I would put Hagans' situation with what the woman did.

Hagans just appears to be idiotic kid stuff. The other thing was a truly disturbing situation.

And really, none of that made me feel embarrassed as a Kentuckian really. That was on her and she should be disciplined, as I'm sure she will be. But hopefully some forgiveness is in order as well.
