Far be it from me to jump on somebody for optimism. I love when fans are fans and don't try to pick apart everything about a team. Sometimes it feels like we've perverted the notion of what being a fan should be with social media and nobody can really enjoy UK basketball anymore. We're too busy dissecting everything.

Sometimes it's good to just sit back and watch. This is, after all, supposed to be entertainment.

It's kind of the point i am trying to make, all of this social media and information at your fingertips on a hourly basis has somehow taken the fun out of it all, not only Kentucky basketball but sports in general. Back in the day I would get a Cats Pause and read up in the preseason and then just watch the season play out and enjoy it as a fan, now it is totally different, everything has to be perfect or it is a failure. Myself personally i am trying to get back to the basics and why i really love Kentucky basketball in the first place, i just want to enjoy the game and keep the hope alive that in March anything can happen, that includes us and our team going on a magical run and shocking the world. Yes it is not always perfect but i have been guilty in the past of being so critical of a team that it takes away from the good moments of a season and before you know it, the season is over and the good things was overlooked because so much attention was focused on the bad, i i am done with that mentality, maybe it's because i am older, i don't know....

Personally, I can take fans being critical of a team like this.

Yeah, UK fans--in true UK fan fashion--take it too far. But it's not like they're inventing things out of the air. This team has flaws and we can all see them. (Although I would argue that they're getting better.)

My problem is when fans start to crack on teams that are really powerful. I saw people saying 2012 wasn't that good, 2015 wasn't any fun, etc. I can't get on board with any of that. That's people looking for a problem.

And don't get me wrong, sometimes things happen in a game or Cal makes a dumb coaching move and it ticks people off, that part of the passion and being a fan. I just do not want to be the type of fan who goes crazy when it all goes wrong but then never praised or enjoys it when things are going right, i have been guilty of that in the past....

Anyways, i like the way this team is coming together slowly but surely. Hagans worries me a little but overall i like the direction we are headed, i feel we do have a chance, that's all i can ask for....

This is so true, even though I'm a bit guilty myself. Of course I see the game from an officials stand point and all this media instant replay, monitors etc, has made the officiating so much more difficult. Fans are different toward the officials because of all this and announcers who have no idea about officiating but act like they do. It never ceases to amaze me how a fan sitting up in the stands or in their recliner, can assume they can see a very fast game as well as a trained official can right next to a play. IF we could revert back to when the game was more simple. When a walk was called a walk. When a block/charge call was the responsibility of the official the play was going toward. Half the fans were still upset every time the whistle blew, but basketball was basketball and not what we have today. It's a messed up mess and probably will get worse as those in authority continue to try to make it better.

A little off topic but there have been very few mop up minutes for our bench players this year.

Probably because we really haven't beat people like a drum this season.

It's amazing how many people I talk to out in the world--at work, mostly, but also just other UK fans I know--who want to talk about one thing and one thing only: the refs.

I can't tell if the games are genuinely officiated worse or if people just have high-definition access to all the games now, thus the errors (or perceived errors) are more glaring.

I've never really thought it's a huge problem. I notice it about every four games or so. Sometimes you can really notice it. But there are definitely times we don't notice it, but opposing fans probably do simply because Kentucky was the beneficiary of some calls and we didn't notice them.

Even on WCN a few times the past three or four years we've seen fans say they can't watch anymore due to the officiating.

I think there are problems with how fast the game is moving. I also think officials may be aging, and thus you're seeing some issues you didn't in years past. They also might work too much, which adds to the errors.

But I sort of think fans over-state how bad the officiating is.

Seeing as we really dont have much depth that may be just as well.

Anyways, win by 30 each and every game or fire Coach Cal!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's just the way a lot of fans use the internet/message board. I think a lot of good full time fans probably get a lot of enjoyment out of watching a win/good performance and crack open a beer and relax. But the same fan watches a crapper of a game they just want to vent. Some of us log on and comment whether we play well or not but it doesn't bother me if not everyone wants to put in their 2 cents when the guys & coaches have done things well. Each to his own I suppose.

Correct me about the 2012 team if I am mistaken but I think their record was 38-2 & won a NCAA title& had a Number one NBA draft pick in Anthony Davis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
