Also was wrong about Brooks, that mid range jump shot could come in handy, he shoots it a lot better than Whitney. With Whitney shooting the ball, hide your kids, that think is liable to come out and knock someone out in the crowd, horrible

I actually think we'll be okay. I think there's as good a chance to be there in the end as there ever was.

But were I building a team, I'd always try to go with a point guard who can shoot, because I just think it's easier to get those clean threes off ball screens at the top of college defenses.

Driving relentlessly through traffic is an NBA skill no question. But it seems like in the national title game every year you see point guards who can kill you coming off ball screens if you don't hedge like crazy. I'd love for Kentucky to have that sort of players but it's been rare in the Cal era.
Devin Askew is on his way.

Optimism in hard times is commendable. Maybe you're right. But there are a ton of "ifs" in play this year. Lots of pieces to fall in place. Not so sure Camp Cal is up to it. Hope hope hope

Eh, I'm not a sunshine pumper, we're gonna take some L's to teams we shouldn't. I just keep in mind that we lost to Duke by 35 last year and it turned out okay - had we not lost Reid and then PJ late in the year I wonder what would've happened.

I do think this team is gonna have to make defense its identify though, because offense isn't great. I think that Tubby team from 03 might be a good reference. I'm not saying we're going to the Final Four or anything, just saying we can be in the conversation in the end.

I'm excited about Askew. I'll promise you that. But I keep expecting "next year's" class to be better than the year before proves to be and you just never really know what a kid will be in college till he gets there.

Rivals has Askew as the 6th best PG in 2020.after his reclassification and 22nd overall.
              Quickly was 6th/22nd.--2018
              Hagans was 1st/13th--2018
Maxey 3rd/10th --2019--maybe will be a star--certainly showed up for MSU.

Every class is different and the scouts aren't always right. Just saying you never really know. Interesting Askew's & IQ's projections are the same.

Which is a solid bet, because the only thing keeping us from having a shot EVERY SINGLE YEAR Cal has been here was Noel's injury...

I remember the '13 class too with the Harrisons, Randle, James Young, etc that looked terrible early on.

I hope we have more returners next year (we have to, right?) because otherwise we'll be having the same conversatiosn next year.

Will wanted a PG that could shoot, Askew is every bit the shooter Knight, Lamb, and Ulis were. And he's a bulldog.

Pictures I've seen he resembles Trae Young. Hope he shoots like him!

                              Askew is incredible.

Only thing is, as someone mentioned, he's going to be young. Turns 18 next summer. So you've got a kid on the younger edge of the normal freshman age, which is sometimes a problem.

When I watched him I was blown away. Actually every guard on that Why Not team was amazing. Just one of those ferocious sorts of players.

I think Tyrese Maxey is going to be that as we go forward. Still believe he'll have a big season this year and will figure in some more big games for us. Problem is I'm not sure we have enough around him.

We are going to need EJ but I wonder how much he can give, really. He's a finesse guy who gets pushed around a lot and he is just Charmin soft. That EKU game where he got popped in the mouth, I swear for many minutes after that play he kept feeling his lip. OK, you got popped in the mouth. Play on young man. It's a shame too because he can be SO good.
