A Closer Look at Three of Cal's Comments from Media Day

Interesting comments especially about Quickley. I've heard from people that he's been the biggest surprise of the preseason.

And this isn't in here, but I've heard that Cal is comparing Maxey to Jamal Murray.

The three comments were about Quickley's improvement, whether Dontaie Allen will be ready (he should be ready to practice in a month, but still nothing concrete about whether he'll redshirt or not), and how much Nick Richards has come along. Cal said Richards was looking a lot better in practice, but he seemed to note the competition around him in the post is likely not as tough as it was last year at UK.

Talked a lot about what kind of shape Richards was in and seemed to intimate that his biggest problem is just getting bullied by stronger players.

He also said, on TV last night, that defensively we should be awesome. He mentioned shot blockers and tight defense out on the court.

The thing with Richards seems to be an issue of just learning to play. He’s out of position quite a bit, and I’m not sure that he has realized how devastating he could be on the college level at his size. Still has to learn to play though.

Richards juat being strong will go a long way for his confidence. It's frustrating to watch your 6'10" guy get pushed around by much smaller players.

As I seem to say every season (since I've been in this forum), I'm gonna try NOT to get too worked up before January. Ha! Lol
