I've never understood cutting ties with someone because of their political bent. It isn't as though Jones interjects his politics into everything, and he does a pretty good job of keeping them separate. You follow his KSR twitter handle for sports, his MattJonesRadio handle if you want his politics.

Unfortunately, that is where we are today.I will not support those who are either for or refuse to stand up and take a stand against those who want to abort a baby at the last minute, sorry, not sorry, kiss my you what if we are on the opposite bench, I could care less.

If he wants to be the next Joe Manchin, then maybe my opinion will change. I actually think if he ran as a independent, he could pull off a upset.

But that's a self-fulfilling statement that you have the ability to change.

OK guys, go back to discussing the original topic and leave out the politics, or I will close this thread. This is not the place.

And I can't think of a better writer to write about the history of UK Basketball than Will Lavender.

Now that would be a good read.

Can you already feel the Love? Will would have a smile on his face with every word he typed.

It would be awesome. Trust me, I've thought about it.

But the book I would write wouldn't be a history but would be something more like this, which is a deep dive into one particular season.

You'd have to write it as a simply a fan looking in from the outside however because you'd never get the access that this guy was able to get. Particularly not in the Calipari era, where things around the basketball program are a lot more sealed off than they were in years past. But it would be a lot of fun.

I don't read novels, but I'd absolutely read a memoir type piece from Will about UK Basketball. I'd even make him sign it.

No major publisher would be interested I wouldn't think. You might get some interest if you were a New York Times reporter or Matt Jones or somebody with a major platform and 100K Twitter followers, but even then it's a hard sell. Sports books are very niche for obvious reasons: sports people aren't huge readers.

Outside the North Carolina basketball book I linked to above there's a very good book about a season of Alabama football called Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer; it's written by a NYT reporter. This was published when Alabama was mediocre in the early 2000s or late '90s, which makes the book that much more interesting.

But there aren't a ton of books out there like that. A writer friend of mine here in Louisville wrote one about Kentucky's magical '96 season called Portrait of the Artist as a Young Fan. Very interesting, but IIRC he got it self-published. That's a lot of work for a book that wouldn't sell many copies and wouldn't net you much in the long run.

Might as well post one's thoughts on a message board tbh.

I do not want to put this man's business or his name out there but he grew up with Joe B., was the Bill Keightley without the recognition, very close to everyone through all the years.

Again, i would love to read a book of his and all the stories and i think you would be the perfect person to write about it....

I think it is funny that WLEX fired JOnes from the show, because he is rumored to be writing a book ( a hit piece ) with another guy , about McConnell. I refuse to watch anything on WLEX after they fired Lee Cruise. If they happen to have a UK game, I will watch, other than that no. If they made a two hour UK special, I would not watch it.

Matt Jones occasionally puts left wing political posts on his website. I can't recall him ever saying a single nice thing about anyone that wasn't a liberal. He won't win a political office, unless he runs for mayor of Lex and that is no prize to win. As far as being a Senator, that is a foolish pipe dream and he will get crushed. Just because he runs a UK fan site, does not mean he will turn it into a political following. I believe it is quite the opposite.

The little tv show was rip off format from an ESPN show. It was not that entertaining. I am UK fan. I don't idolize anyone because they run a fan site. He struck gold with it. Good for him. As far as him and his politics, it seems that he thinks his local celebrity makes him an opinion maker, just like the big hollywood stars and sports athletes that think their opinion matters more than anyone elses.

                          Go Cats.

Unless I'm mistaken Jones and Lee Cruise are friends. Saw just last night that Cruise is going to be co-hosting Jones' radio show today.

He says nice things about Republicans all the time, you just don't listen to him.

I agree with you about Lee Cruise, though.

                                Amen, preach!!!

On a side note, hanging out with that other dude playing GOLF and looking cool to the misinformed youth will not land you recruits that you continue to miss out on a year to year basis. I call it for what it is, first it was Lebron throwing up the Y at Rupp, then Jay Z, Drake, now that dude who's married to another dude. Not what i expected but i get it, it's selling and marketing 101 and that's what Cal does best.....
