SEC to Allow Alcohol Sales

I respect your right to an opinion on the matter, but I'd suggest if you don't like alcohol, don't drink it.

I'm adamantly for alcohol being served at the events.

I do think football, because of tailgating, has created a weird thing where you get these night games where many in the stadium are drunk by kickoff. We haven't had anything awful happen (my friends did go to a game a few years ago and a person vomited over their entire row), but it's not uncommon to go to Commonwealth and see people roaring drunk by gametime. There was a young man--maybe 18 but probably younger--around us at a game last year who could hardly stand.

To me that's a separate issue than selling beer at the stadium. And I'm not even sure it's an issue to be honest, or at least it's one that's probably unenforceable without punishing a lot of folks unintentionally. But I do think football has become a little like European soccer in that it caters more to aggressive, semi-/fully drunken louts than it does the family. I went to a Bengals game a few years ago and holy crap the level of intoxication and outright hostility was wild.

Yeah, if we're concerned about fan behavior, enact policies to curb behavior BEFORE the game. Concession stand prices are too expensive to get drunk during the game. The Reds in particular sell beer for as much as $13 - I don't care who you are, that's too expensive.

Your point about football in general becoming more prone to allowing combative and hostile behavior is a good one.

Yes, you have it correct. I hate children (even my 3 kids) and especially the elderly (my grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc... included).

This weird, "we can't sell beer or the stadium will turn into a drug fueled orgy" mentality is baffling to me.

How do people go anywhere or do anything with this type of fear?

Go to a restaurant? Nope, can't do that, those dang alcohol drinkers may murder us. Go to a movie? Nope, unless it's PG I may hear a bad word. Go to a concert? Whoa, are you crazy? Do you know what happens there? Surely can't go to a MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, or MLS event either.

I have been to probably 1,000+ sporting/concert, etc...type events in my life (some I had a few beers others I did not) and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I ran into any issues, saw outrageous behavior or had any drunk/cursing/fighting issues. This fear is so overblown it's beyond silly.

people that want it are gonna drink it. It's great as long as it doesn't intrude on others around them.
Selling it at the event will likely cause a bit more control of the age groups,
and some venues cut off alcohol after a certain time ( been to some ball games years before where the Seventh inning was cut off)

we were just giving slants on it. Folks that don't care for the atmosphere will likely leave kids at home, and I'm pretty sure there will be some kind of addendum for security.

I imagine Mitch gets the first call, but the school president and bod will have final say. However, as has been already pointed out, Rupp already has that capability and being off campus will likely factor in favor as well.

Will had a good point. I've been at baseball stadiums hand never had problems, and there's plenty of high priced beer.
I've never had a good time at football with a load.of drunks....even if I was partaking.

Mitch isn't gonna leave Dr. Capilouto hanging out on a limb - he wouldn't take a stance that was counter to his boss' wishes. I don't know whether it's a UK Athletics Board or a UK BOT call or Mitch's alone, but the administration will be in a unified voice here.

I can see both sides. I like to have a drink during a game, but some people take it way too far. It's a variable you have to consider especially if you're taking kids or grandparents, etc.

UK is really good about removing problem people if reported to an usher. I almost NEVER encounter a disruptive drunk person inside the stadium. Either way, I will still have to sneak my scotch in...

The church we attend up here serves beer sometimes (mostly for special events and on Super Bowl Sunday). Never been to a Catholic picnic? Oktoberfest? Fish Fry?

Modern movie theaters all serve beer.
