Others may disagree but I'd like to see it stay in this forum. The political forum has about the same three people posting and you'll get the same kinds of takes all the time.

This is a tough conversation but it's also one that has dominated a good deal of the news for the past year or so. Even if it's emotional it's probably something that should be discussed out in the open rather than hiding it in a protected forum, simply because on its face it has to do with the confluence of sports and culture.

There's no problem with hard disagreement on subjects IMO.

Also, I wouldn't expect this to stay in the news like the Kaepernick thing did.

This seemed to be a direct statement about something that was happening in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday.

The players felt strongly enough about the issue to protest in what was likely the best/ most peaceful way to have their voice heard.
are there other ways they could have stated their opinion? Sure.
Would those other ways have been heard as much? I doubt it.

Sadly, the players' choice of protest would only make the people they're protesting against hate them more.

Of course the point of a protest like that isn't to make those types like you or anything. But it is ironic.

I noticed one of the organizers of one of the Confederate marches Saturday was named K-Rack Johnson.

In a protest, you already know that your opinion will be despised by the group you are protesting against. A successful protest involves stating your point and causing those who don't think about the issue to consider it. As in a political race or perhaps in a Supreme Court case, you as a protester are trying to reach the undecided or uneducated (on that issue).

Kneeling in protest is one of the finest examples of America, as a theory, and I'm not sure why people who hate it don't recognize it as such.
