My advice to the NBA players is to start saving money before t he lockout and new CBA agreement comes up, owners want there game back and are tired of superteams....Comment

Cousins is absolutely right, but I kind of wish he would've been clearer differentiating the NCAA from Kentucky specifically.
He loves Kentucky, and comments like this make it seem (to the average fan) that he doesn't. Or maybe I'm just reading it incorrectly.Comment

I get the statement theoretically. Nobody can deny that what he's saying is correct.
But sometimes I do get a little tired of the "college sports are terrible" crowd. Like everything else in America these days, it's hyperbolized into oblivion. They can't just say "College players need to be paid," they have to go a million steps farther than that and suggest that college ball is like indentured servitude, or torture, or that it's basically on the level of prison.
That's silliness. And tiresome particularly when you've got so many families that aren't going to be able to afford sending their kids to college at all.
But at its heart, it isn't wrong.👍 2Comment

It's a complicated statement from a complicated man.

But college basketball ball has gotten awful in the last 5 years or so. Games that get played in the 50’s are an abomination. Feels like a lot more blown calls have happened too.Comment

College basketball is an extremely physical game, but I don't necessarily blame that on the sport. That's coaching but it's also the deluge of weight training that goes on. I watch a lot of high school basketball and it's gotten very physical at that level as well. I tend to think that's what happens when people start weight training at such a young age and then they're taught to be as physical as possible in the post.
I sort of have a different take on the "the game's gotten unwatchable" takes. For me, when I watch clips from the '80s I'm shocked at how passive the game is. I in many ways like the physicality and roughness, but there are times when it gets so over the top that there's no flow to the game because the officials have to take control (and sometimes they take control just because). When there's no flow, basketball doesn't work.Comment

If I'm counting right it looks like UK has scored in the 50s 18 times in the Calipari era.
Twice last year, four times in the 38-1 year, three or four times in the really bad NIT year, and a smattering of other times. Many of our really low-scoring games are in the NCAA Tournament, which makes sense: more pressure, rims tighten, bad shooting. Very common to see tournament games at all levels played really tight and slow.Comment

I agree with the part of your post about college basketball being indentured servitude or whatever, that’s nonsense.

Those games were played very slow because it was hard for teams to operate against us. You almost had to use the entirety of the shot clock to get a shot. Hard to score points if you're that stingy on defense.
But that team wasn't a tremendous offensive team. They probably would've been better had Ulis and Booker just been given the keys from the start but they wouldn't have lost just one game.Comment
