    Kentucky vs VMI Game Thread

Just got in and saw no thread for this. Has it come to this? Seeing the score it is not surprising. We are terrible. VMI? Are kidding me?

I am glad I decided not to watch. I was watching the WKU game and saw the score. I do not know but the only way for this team to go is up. Seems we are being outplayed each game by lesser competition (excluding Duke). Glad I work Wednesday. Hope Cal can figure out enough where we win more that we lose in the SEC.

VMI is a terrible team. Two of three wins are against Divison 3 teams and they are currently ranked #317.

This UK team has SO many issues, especially on defense.

KSR played the game off to UK having to guard smaller players and we wont have to worry about it when we get into the meat of the schedule because we wont have to worry about guarding short guys. Really? So glad that is over. Cant wait for taller easier to guard players.

Definitely plenty of room for improvements. But sometimes you just have to give credit where it's due. The guy from VMI was unconscious. No matter how well defended, or how deep he was just on fire.

We have some glaring issues defensively, but when dudes are hitting shots like the ones in the second half, you just tip your cap and congratulate them.

A win is a win... keep it moving.

Sounds like I'm glad I was at Church and Choir practice.

It wasn't that bad. Offensively I thought UK played well. Defensively there is work to be done.

But I think it's fun to watch a guy put on a show like what the Bubba guy did. Would just rather see him do it against a different team.

I haven't watched this game yet. Its on my DVR. I just don't have much enthusiasm for the season right now. I think this changing of players every season has just worn me down. I like some continuity from season to season.

Sounded like VMI was that annual team that comes into Rupp and just rains threes. Stays in the game and gives everyone hemoriods for the night. This season looks a whole lot like last season. We will see how it goes.

Not defensively. That team last year was arguably Cal's best three-point defensive team. They would've crushed that team last night.

Overall this team is sort of like an inversion of last year. Last year we were hamstrung inside because of Richards and because of Vanderbilt's injury, and this year we have the interior play to be a really good team but our guardplay has been erratic.

The irony is that in this sport, guardplay is so important that we could remain stout inside all year and still be a mediocre team. You have to have guards. These guards outside Quade and at times Keldon Johnson have been wildly up and down. Last year you could pretty much pencil Shai in as having a good game, and there were times he pretty much put that team on his back.

If you're looking for an upshot, it's that you really have to think Tyler Herro will become the player we all think he can be at some point, and you hope that his improvement will help steady the guard position so that it's solid. He's been well below the player he needs to be and that's a major deal with as many touches as he gets during a game.
