With the 3pt shot coming in 86 or 87 anyone before the Sutton years is at a real disadvantage in this category. I'll go with

    1. Delk
    2. Meeks
    3. Booker

I know Booker was never even a starter but that doesn't mean that I didn't want him to be. I guess I'm answering this with my favorite 3 rather than the best 3 in a UK career.

Told me that he had to guard him in the state tournament their senior year and that Shidler scored 53 points on him, mostly from very long range. He couldn't stop him. If he had played 20 years later, maybe........

Delk will always be my favorite, though.
Jay Shidler and Troy McKinley were similar in that regard.

      1. Tony Delk
      2. Louie Dampier
      3. Rex Chapman

Tony Delk, Derek Anderson, and of course, my favorite Wildcat of all time -- Gerald Fitch.

I watched Jay Shidler play in the Illinois state tourney twice for Lawrenceville. He was one of my favorite players to watch. If he had played in the late 80's or early 90's he'd have averaged 20 a game I believe. Anyway.....

            1) Dampier (Yes, I'm old enough to remember him play.)
            2) Delk
            3) Meeks

I'm surprised at the level of support for Rex... I don't remember much of his time at UK... my only actual memory is of him bricking threes of the back iron...

I'm surprised I wasn't named Rex. He was a god among the state for a long time, on the same level of celebrity as John Wall albeit for HS and two years of college.

Chapman was incredible. He was really ahead of his time. One of the most athletic players ever. In his prime he is one who could definitely play with todays guys. And he was a 40% three point shooter.

The 1986 game where he led UK to a total demolition of UL who was the defending champions was wonderful.

Chapman was incredible. I remember his high school career well when he was at Apollo. Just a freak athlete with a will to win.

I remember people being gaga for him, I just don't remember much of his play in college. In the NBA he was sort of irrelevant. Years later I read articles about Jeff Shepherd asserting the he was on Rex's level for athleticism and skill so I sort of thought the legend of Rex was overblown.

I'm not stating anything about Rex... at all. If those who remember say he was great, he was great.

As a 31 year old I'm not trying to allege that I remember him, but I have seen some short bits of footage and have watched a couple recordings. For a guy his size he was very athletic and I'm not simply saying he could jump. He made plays all over the court and played hard, and I think of him very much like a Derek Anderson to be honest. Similar players and styles of play.

Looking back, I remember Chapman setting the fan base on fire. Then he got hurt....a broken transverse process in his back if I recall. Then there seemed to be friction between him and Eddie Sutton that led to a reputation that followed him to the pros that he was an 'uncoachable son of a coach'.
as far as the fan base going ape, think John Wall plus some.

Shepard is probably my all time favorite Cat. I think his athleticism and skill are usually very underrated. But he was definitely not on the level of Chapman.

I think when he left too left a lot people a little sour on him. Right after he left all heck started breaking with all the misdeeds of the Eddie Sutton era. Many felt like Chapman knew this was coming and was getting out of Dodge as fast as he could. Whether that's true or not we will never know but many felt this way after he left.
                              Kentucky fan since 1971.

Chapman was a 40% career three-point shooter who averaged about 18 a game in his two-year career.
