Georgia's Mark Fox, UCONN's Kevin Ollie Fired

I'm sad to see Fox go from the SEC because I think he's a good X's and O's guy, but my goodness do his teams love to muck the game up.

And Ollie just couldn't recruit. You've gotta get studs at UCONN.

They're trying to fire Ollie with cause, which is particularly nuts given the stuff Calhoun got away with.

Recruiting at UConn was not helped by conference realignment.

After the Calhoun show the only 'cause' for Ollie is 'cause' he lost too many games.

Georgia won't find a better coach for that program. The big thing that hurt him was that every year they would lose to a mid major or two in the first couple of months of the season. I think that kept them out of at least a couple of NCAA tournaments. Also he needed to loosen up that offense. No high level player would ever consider playing in a system like that.

Ollie just isn't a good coach. That was a fluke tournament drive that won it for him that year. That team got a real lucky win in the 1st round and they rode that momentum all the way. That's the one loss in the NCAA I hate for Cal because they should have never lost to that team

I'm not sure how true, but supposedly Pitino's name is being tossed around at Georgia.

Jay Williams said on ESPN tonight he has heard multiple sources say UGA may go after Rick Pitino. Hard to imagine anyone hiring him but he seemed convinced it could happen.

I hope they hire both Crean and Pitino./ Make them co-Head Coaches.

Unless Georgia thinks they can get Pitino then I could MAYBE see the move. But Crean? That's a lateral move IMO. Outside of Dwayne Wade, what has Crean done?

I wonder if Kennedy would be a candidate or if he would even consider it?

Rick might work out well for UGa., if he's learned his lesson. The man can recruit and coach. Giving coach Petrino another chance has worked out well for U of L, so who's to say the same thing couldn't happen for the Dawgs.

Has to be a good chance of a show-cause coming for any school hiring Pitino. May take a while but seems it would give pause to a school needing a coach now.

CBS reports Ollie’s buyout would be approximately $10,000,000. Stallings’ at Pitt is reported to be $9,400,000. Multimillion dollar buyouts for failure have become the norm throughout the NCAA. There doesn’t seem to be even an effort to pay coaches based on merit or performance or even a likelihood of success. At any given time, about half of head coaches are going to have a poor season, but they’re all paid immense amounts (not just to coach, but to be fired if they don’t do their jobs well).
