The Cats are going to get Bob Huggins' team at a good time: the Mountaineers are struggling, having lost three of four. (It could have easily been four of five, but Baylor couldn't hold on in Morgantown.) WVU is led by 56-year-old point guard Javon Carter; Carter is one of those guys who's just bulldog tough and who won't back down even if Kentucky somehow puts together a run in this game. Daxter Miles Jr. is the second leading scorer; Miles became infamous in Kentucky for running smack out against the 2015 team, a decision that wasn't the smartest in hindsight.
WVU as we all know jumps and traps all over the court. It's going to be 40 minutes of chaos, and if Kentucky turns it over as they're prone to do then we could lose this game by three touchdowns.
I look for Kentucky to play better in this game than they have, but even with an A effort I'm not sure if they have the horses to hang one on WVU in their gym. It would take Kentucky hitting at least 8 or 10 threes, something we haven't done since Virginia Tech. It will also take a strong effort from Quade Green, because one point guard will not be enough with this team. And Quade is still embroiled in a major funk.
I selfishly wish that this particular team didn't have this particular game on its schedule. The only thing you hope is, if Kentucky can't win, playing in that environment will prepare it for the more winnable road games we're going to have to finish out our league schedule.
The game is at 7:00 tomorrow night on ESPN. My prediction:
Kentucky 68
West Virginia 78
