    Nike Youth League EYBL Subpoenaed

This is part of the FBI's ongoing investigation. The EYBL is the Elite Youth Basketball League; they put on a bunch of AAU events over the summer, including the famous Peach Jam.

Wow! I think we are going to say that a lot before the FBI gets through with all of this.

We have heard rumblings of how dirty the shoe company influence on college bb has been for some time. We may not be in the clear just yet...

I suppose if EVERY major power is implicated it would be as bad for individual schools.

One thing I'm pretty sure Kentucky does is set up living arrangements for players' families. You'll notice that many of them come to Lexington to live. I've always felt like there are things being "taken care of" on that front.

As for envelopes full of cash...I doubt that happens with Cal. Partly because you don't really have to do it when you're selling getting to the NBA in twelve months, but also because he backs off of a lot of players that are a little sketchy. He seems to have a good eye for where the dirt is.

Didn't KAT's parents move to Lexington during BB season? But, just because some do this doesn't mean their expenses are being paid.

The U.K. athletic dept staff I know all seem to act as though the dept, is top to bottom squeaky clean. Family living arrangements would count as "impermissible benefits".

I would imagine Cal and Kentucky are smart enough to know with his reputation and Kentucky's history of NCAA scandal, every move he makes is being scrutinized.

I have a hard time imagining Mitch allowing shenanigans to take place.

If y'all say you aren't at least a little worried that Cal's name's going to pop up, you're lying.

Totally agree....I would like to think UK and Cal are on the up and up, but who knows for sure. I feel confident that they are clean because the NCAA seems intent on finding something against Cal.

Two UL commits for 2018 have already jumped ship. Also Bowens has been asked to keep away from team activities.

I thought that at first, too, but this isn't the NCAA or NYT we're talking about. This is the FBI. Slightly more reach.

I hope that the "Cal doesn't have to cheat at UK" and "Sandy Bell's got this" and "Cal knows they're watching" narratives hold water - and I think they will. He's (apparently) so open with his methods that he's either A.) not, in fact, cheating, or B.) hiding in plain sight.

Eh. I've thought it's possible that Cal's dirty since he got here. But I don't let it really bother me. It's always going to be a possibility no matter who the coach is. Dirty game.

I've gained an appreciation for Cal since he's been here, but there are things that Kentucky fans spin away that are incredibly problematic. I'm not going to get into those things because I don't really have time to debate them, but the way some of the things that happened to Cal's programs in the past and the way they were handled were chock full of red flags. Of course you can--and we have--spin the hell out of those things.

The question is whether Kentucky "changed" Cal. Or whether he was ever truly dirty or just in bad circumstances. I don't know and it's really not worth thinking about because it'd just eat a person up.

But I go back to the point I made on the other thread: EVERY program today should be worried. Not just Kentucky and Cal.

If you spend your time worried you can't live. Practice starts in two weeks. I'm way more pumped for that. If the whole thing comes crashing down because we hired criminals then you deal with that when it comes, but bracing for black swans isn't why I watch sports. This is supposed to be fun.

I imagine ALL top programs and maybe top program want to be's are concerned. I'll admit I am

In Sandy Bell, and the rest of the compliance staff, I trust. I feel as confident as one can be...but I am aware that it is a complicated business and something could absolutely have fallen through the cracks. Hope not, but this is an unprecedented crackdown on a racket that's been around as long as the sport itself.
