    Familiar story in Memphis

    The more things change, the more they stay the same;

Corey Jeffries, the father of the top-rated basketball prospect in the Memphis area, wanted to make sure one point was clear before launching into a critique of Coach Tubby Smith earlier this week.

Unlike you, I'm not a Tubby hater. In fact, once he left UK, I creased to have any feelings about him one way or the other. I will say this, and this is strictly my opinion only, I wondered, when he took the job, if Tubby was looking to coast for a few more years and then retire.

Tubby's main problem is recruiting. Memphis will never get to where they were under Calipari, with Tubby in charge.

Tubby didn't even recruit the best player in Lexington, who ended up in the NBA. Kentucky's home town, Lexington, for some reason produces very few top D1 basketball players. When one rolls around, you would think Kentucky would be all over it. Nope,

I think they were looking for the polar opposite of Josh Pastner when they hired him.

But anybody could see that that was a terrible hire from the outset. You need somebody more like Pastner at Memphis: a guy who can excite people, who will be able to recruit locally, who will fire up a basketball-crazy fanbase. Tubby is none of those things at this point in his career.

One of the worst hires any major program has made in recent years. Probably since we grabbed Gillispie.

Tubby's not out there burning down the airports on recruiting trips?

          Shocked.

Not sure it's as bad as Pitt hiring Kevin Stallings.

Yeah, that one escalated (de-escalated?) quickly.

Both Tubby and Stallings are going to lose major parts of their teams through transfer going into next season.

Tubby is a world class grifter. he always made his living on what the previous coach built. It was that way at Tulsa where he followed Self. Same at UGA when he followed Durham. Same at UK when followed Pitino. Again at Minn when he followed Monson. Again at TT when he followed BCG. He has never built anything in his coaching career. He took over a mess at Memphis.

                Nostradumbass could see this coming.

But he still has some people fooled. Even some UK fans remain fooled by him. World class grifter.

I don't think any UK fans are fooled by him.

I don't think so either. I know some are still fooled by him. Or, are you saying that the ones fooled are not UK fans?

I'm saying that not holding a perpetual grudge and dislike of the guy doesn't =/= being fooled by the guy.

OK. I'm missing your veiled point. But anyway, there are many people still fooled by the grifter. Apparently, you claim to not be one of those fooled?

And I never said anything of the sort about the people that are fooled by him are only the ones that don't hate him. But being glib about the damage he did to UK is a strong hint that they would be one of them.

College coaches can't contact kids till after their HS Sophomore year? Andy Kennedy calls every day? Sounds like trouble.

I'm not sure what "damage" he did that wasn't fixed immediately after Calipari came on board. You keep saying that and it's just not true. You also seem to harbor far more ill will toward Tubby than you do Billy Gillispie, which is highly misguided.

Your "everyone is an idiot but me" attitude is tiresome.

I have read and posted on all things Tubby here forever. The Tubby stuff has become tiresome. I just don't care about it anymore. The thing that sticks in my craw though, is how some folks will use any opportunity to bash on someone like Tubby ad nauseum. Those same folks never utter anything of the damage Sutton or BCG did to our program. This goes further than basketball, imo.
