NCAA Rejects UofL's Defense of Pitino

But in a 118-page report sent to U of L last Friday, the NCAA’s investigative division determined that “Pitino did not supplement his trust in McGee with frequent spot-checks, including actively looking for and evaluating red flags, asking pointed questions and regularly soliciting honest feedback to determine if monitoring systems existed or were functioning properly.”

The NCAA response sets the stage for a hearing in front of the governing body’s committee on infractions that is likely to take place this summer. The enforcement staff, which authored the report released Thursday, essentially acts as investigator and prosecutor.

Still unknown are the ultimate sanctions that will be levied against the university, which imposed a ban on postseason play in 2016 and reduced the overall number of scholarships.

I'm not sure there's a punishment harsh enough for them.

Joining conference with the untouchable programs doesn't make you untouchable? Interesting.

I don't disagree, but UL's punishment should be less than UNC's.

            Complete agreement, here.

I commented on it then, and I will now. The complete hypocrisy of the NCAA is on full display, with UNC. That they didn't even have the graces to pretend to humble themselves with a post season ban, is a pretty clear demonstration that they think themselves untouchable on it.

UNC may hang another championship banner because of the hypocrisy of the NCAA. Such a double standard with other schools. The past UNC diplomas should be written in crayon.

This further confirms my suspicion that the banner will be coming down.

Doesn't sound good for UL. If you get on the wrong side of the judge, jury and executioner (The NCAA) you are in big trouble. But it will most likely be another year before they hand down any sentence.

"Failed to monitor the program" has to open them up to the dreaded lack of institutional control charge, right?

^ Exactly my thought. Louisville might be headed for a near death penalty.

Quick Rick's days at UL are numbered:

                            1. He's 64.
                            2. His ex gets out of jail this July and I don't see them both living in Louisville.
                            3. He's not psychologically capable of dealing with his own failures, thus he bails.

Agreed. UNC took the "student" out of "student athlete."
