What I saw from him last night was so Carmelo Anthony it turned my stomach.
So what do you want to do to shame him? Make him run wind sprints in a chicken suit down Broadway in Lexington? One of more dumb comments I have ever read on WCN..

Well, once I'm the head coach....

Or, maybe that's Cal's job. Maybe KP's. Maybe even a team mate.

I guess no one here ever got some tough love from peers. Nobody ever got shown some clips of their effort on a play and had a coach just say nothing while the clip is playing? Just left the obvious in the air.

Because you can't send the message that THAT level of commitment is fair to expect from this player, but not from that one.

Why were we bragging about the basketball Dominique was playing? Because he was filling it up? Because he was blocking every shot? Or because he was giving his all in any way he can?

Monk didn't quit. I think his slump has gotten in his head. Sunday would be a great time to shake it.

I take this game with a grain of salt. I see it this way, we were not being pushed when we played D, we caused TO's, we could rebound when we wanted. Cal does not rub it in and he knows we are playing the next round. We win and move on. We had 1 game that we could coast on. We coasted. Now the tourney starts. Or like some are saying we are a team that is getting itself in trouble and we will be done tomorrow. I tend to believe this team has played to the talent level and the good news is the talent level goes up starting tomorrow. GO BIG BLUE!

As competitive as most of these kids are, no one feels as bad as Monk does about his effort (I hope)

....it must be the motivational talks Monk is having with Roderick Rhodes. Monk is in a slump and he simply plays better when he is out there just having fun. This team would have a bunch of losses without Monk this year. He may play like crap on Sunday or he may be brilliant. He is getting in more practice time on his shot. Monk is a type of player that goes based on the flow. He is thinking too much. He shooting to not miss instead of just shooting it. To shame him? Total bull crap.

That was sarcasm. People get down on this team and Cal at the drop of a hat.

Sometimes I wonder Bob. If your shot isn't falling and your focused on your team winning, you can still hustle on defense. You can still go after loose balls and fight for rebounds. Monk just stands there. Puzzling to me.

I hope so, we need him to be focused.

I saw Monk guarding on quite a few possessions late. Definitely wasn't his best game but I didn't see him getting beat anymore than I saw Fox or Bam getting beat.

The real culprit in that game was how they killed us at the 4. We could do nothing with the kid from Owen County. He held them in the game and they hit four or five shots at the very end to make it look close. But take that one player out and it's a drubbing.

Our 4's could do absolutely nothing with him. Wenyen Gabriel had the poorest game of his season, and that's saying something with the way he's been playing lately.

Seems like an unfocused player would struggle at the foul line late in a game, too.

No, I'm not pleased with it but I'm not concerned either. We had the game in hand the whole game. There was never a chance that we would lose. I would like to see more killer instinct but these are freshmen and no matter how many times you tell them to be concerned about a Northern Ky they just don't get concerned.

I'm not seeing the same Monk others saw that wasn't playing hard. He just missed shots. Still had 12 points. He got a couple rebounds. He blocked a shot. he had a couple assists. He didn't force anything. I remember 1 bad shot. He had 0 turnovers.

But we always play hard. We may not play smart or to the best of our ability but we play hard. I've never seen a Cal team not play hard.

Monk is the prototypical player who can do one thing really well, and that's score.

Jamal Murray was the exact same sort of player. We saw what happened when Murray had an off game: Indiana knocked us out.

When you don't have a whole lot of pure scorers, those you do have are essential in this tournament. When the shots aren't falling for Monk things start going haywire for this team, and it's been that way all year. It's like having a really good pitcher who goes out and gets rocked in the first inning: it tends to make the rest of the team panic.

The good news is that he's usually been able to come back from a bad game and put up points. He better, because if he goes 2-10 we'll lose tomorrow.
