Leaf played in UCLA's loss in the Pac-12 tournament. Had a pretty big game, something like 14 points, 6 assists, 7 or 8 rebounds.

Assuming we make it to the Sweet Sixteen to face them, you would hope this team could rise up and find a way to get a revenge win. Just for the love of God guard Thomas Welsh from 17 feet this time.

You remember that crappy 90s movie, "Powder"?

That's who I think about whenever I see Thomas Welsh. How is it possible that he's good at basketball?

My best friend's daughter likes UCLA. She's six. She only likes UCLA because she's a gymnastics fiend and she loves to watch clips of UCLA gymnastics.

But she wants to watch UCLA basketball from time to time, and she has a nickname for Welsh.

        It's Feathers. Feathers Welsh.

Funny, that's what Matt Jones has called him on his radio show since last year's game when we played in L.A. Maybe Matt Jones is stealing material from your best friend's daughter. Or she listens to Matt Jones.

IMO the selection committee put the emphasis on what you did in the regular season. That's what they should do instead of a riding on a team that got hot for a weekend. Duke may be rounding into form but do we really know that? They probably should have been no more than a three but I can see why they got a two. But in no way did they deserve a one just for having a nice hot weekend.
I think a 2 is right where Duke belongs. If you drop them to a 3 or 4 all that is really doing is punishing the 1 or 2 seed who has to play them in the round of 16.

I do find it highly amusing that they may have to play South Carolina a couple hours from their campus. Not that it should matter but I still like it.

They do listen to Matt, actually. That's exactly where she got it.

After he told me that I can't look at Welsh and not think of him as Feathers.

Based upon their number of wins against top opponents, Duke probably deserved their 2. Not to mention, they're obviously peaking at the right time.

But the 1 discussion was completely ridiculous. And those ESPN guys were REALLY trying to push the agenda yesterday.

Duke got seeded absolutely correctly IMO.

You don't give a team that lost three of their last four regular season games a 1 seed.

I don't normally buy into the 'they have X losses, so they should be the Y seed'...but you don't give a team that lost 8 games a 1 seed.

I knew, though, when K took that 4 week break to have back surgery, and when someone from the tournament selection committee said they'd "take that into account" that Duke wouldn't be penalized at all.

I agree completely. There's a saying "if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best". If we win, I want it to be because we're the best, and not because we had an easy road.

I'll take an easy road anytime. This tournament is too hard to win no matter who you play.

I couldn't disagree more. Most all championship teams have gotten breaks and some luck. That's vital.

The thing is, you don't know what's a break until it happens. UCLA could get upset by somebody and that team could beat us because they match up with us well.

But nobody looks back on the road you took to get a title and says, "Man, that title was awesome...I just wish we played tougher teams." You want the easiest route 100% of the time.

Screw that noise. The 98 title wasn't any less legitimate because we had to play Utah in the title game instead of UNC.

Nope. Give me a road that includes NKU, ETSU, Penn, Iona, and Grambling State. All I want is a championship and I don't care who we beat (or don't beat) to get it.
