I've heard Rick Stansbury may be who LSU makes a run at.
A close friend is very well connected to WKU's athletic department. He said Stansbury for months has been telling kids he is recruiting that he will be at LSU next season.
Has to be one of the worst SEC basketball coaches ever, right?
Rick Ray? Buzz Peterson?
One of. Billy G was worse, but he is awful.

No matter how bad things may seem, you can always make them worse.
In recent years yes he is one of the worst. Going back to just the 1960's many of the SEC schools would have assistant football coaches as their head basketball coach. So there were probably a few of those who may have been worse.
With all of the money that the SEC brings in from football, one would think that the SEC schools would be able to field more successful hoops teams than they do. It is embarrassing the reputation that the SEC has. The league used to have some tough teams. Yes, some of the SEC schools are getting some "Name" coaches, but the problem with that is they are on the downward slope of their careers. There has to be younger coaches out there whou could be even more successful if they get to a bigger league with more resources.
The caliber of coaching has improved in the SEC, actually. You could make a case that Rick Barnes is on the downslope of his career, but I don't think that's true of Bruce Pearl and Ben Howland. Mike White is a good young coach, Bryce Drew, Avery Johnson...I think this league is in much better shape than it's been in over the last few years.
It also had a slightly better year than many thought it was going to have. The performance in the Big 12/SEC Challenge was a little eye-opening, and I hope it translates into at least a modicum of success in the tournament.
The last three, four years the SEC has been hot garbage. It's still at the bottom of the power conferences but it did make strides this season. It's another reason I think Kentucky's 16-2 record in the league was a pretty impressive feat.
^ I actually agree with this, almost word for word. I have never been a Rick Barnes fan, but the others -- especially White & Drew -- are good coaches. Martin has done a decent job at So Carolina. The SEC is getting a little better.
With the exception of UK, the other SEC schools prefer fb hands down. That, in my opinion, is what has held the SEC down, in bb, for years.
I agree Matt, but this has been the case for decades. The SEC used to be a really good basketball conference. I can recall many years where it was THE best conference. Somewhere, somehow it lost it's way. However, I can feel the conference getting better. It still has a ways to go, but the criticism it has been handed by the talking heads makes it to where it would seem to take an act of God to bring it back to even respectability. Nothing could be further from the truth. Before the season started, there was talk that the league was SO bad, that only Kentucky would make the Dance. We could get five now and four for sure. That's improvement. The conference needs Vandy to continue to improve under Drew and it needs someone else to take the next step. Everyone thought A&M would be good this year to no avail. Maybe Pearl will make Auburn semi-relevant again. Bama had some moments early in the year and Johnson is a good coach. Then you take a team like Georgia. That team, with a healthy Maten, can beat a lot of good teams. Everybody rolls their eyes when they hear Cal talk up the league. You know what? Maybe he is right.

A few weeks ago I was listening to the Bob Valvano show. He said, at the time, that the Sagarin rating had the SEC ranked higher than the Pac 12. I about lost control of my truck when I heard that.
