The rational part of me knows it's silly, meaningless, and ultimately foolish. But that passion for Kentucky sports that runs in my veins makes it so that I'll never be able to not get emotionally attached ever again. Double-negative? Who cares.

And, you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. There's not a single thing in my life that I get so vehemently passionate about, aside from my wife and my soon-to-be-born daughter.

If being a die-hard Kentucky fan makes me crazy, I don't want to be sane.
Just wait, it gets worse. I remember the UK- Wichita St game in 2014. As the last shot for WSU left Van Fleet's hand I let out this really loud "NO". My daughter who was 4 at the time looked at me like "What the hell"? My wife said "it's OK, daddy gets a little crazy sometimes". Luckily I was at the UL & Michigan games and for Wisconsin she was in bed. Otherwise she would have been totally convinced I was mental.

Fantastic read by Forde. I didn't think he had it in him. I used to get a bunch of official scorebooks from the old Allied Sporting Goods store at Preston and Fern Valley Road. I filled up a few of them with games played in the early 80's. I loved to do that. I would read the Courier box score the next day to compare to see how I did. I had a blast doing it. I am sure there are other fan bases who do the same but you always hear about our Cats and our fandom and pride more than any other school.

Wish I could. Wouldn't help. Have gotten so bad I can't watch most of the time. Why oh why is this instilled in me? I BLEED BLUE!!!!!

Tomorrow the plans are to watch at Saints. Please, please, don't let it be a nail biter. Won't be able to turn it off

Like all of us......we fell in love with UK for certain reasons. My most cherished memories are listening to Cawood with my dad. It would be in the station wagon because the reception was too bad in Virginia Beach, or I would have to hold the antennae because it gave us a better reception. You didn't dare utter a word unless it was a big yes or moan. No comments were welcome unless the Big Blue Network was at a time out. My mom would get yelled at because the lights were turned on and distorted the radio reception. And I simply loved it as I could visualize everything via Cawood's voice. It's a cherished part of what I remember growing up sitting with my dad and hoping for a victory. The only paper talking about UK was the Cats Pause and that would come 7-10 days late but was treated like the bible.

With radio listeners disappearing gradually I dread thinking that the love of the game will go like baseball gradually has. UK fans are loyal so I don't see that happening soon, but the radio added to the mystique like baseball did for many, and it now seems to be cheapened a little bit but maybe that is the old-timer in me.

          UK fans are the best!

We were fortunate that although we lived in the sticks of Hopkins County, a Madisonville station carried the Kentucky Sports Network and we had good reception for all Basketball and Football games. We would build a good fire in the grate, pop plenty of popcorn and listen to every word.

I've lived in the sticks of Hopkins County all my life except the first year of my life in Paducah and 5 years living in Henderson. Grew up in Earlington. Live in Hanson now.

                  This is an interesting point.

Radio definitely is part of the mystique for a certain generation, but there's an entirely other generation that grew up almost completely without radio. When I was first getting into Kentucky basketball, the radio had already become antiquated, and I think people my age feel that same nostalgia toward UK that old-timers do.

As for baseball, I think that sport lost its mystique for a lot of reasons that didn't have to do with radio. One is that the culture kind of passed the game by. I've personally heard so many people talk about how slow and boring baseball is. I don't think kids, particularly those growing up in this video game age, are as able to connect to baseball's rhythms as they once were.

And it's threads like these that make me miss kynut.

He used to tell stories about driving onto a mountain to get the games. He said you could only get it on a clear night, and he'd drive up there to the middle of nowhere and listen to Cawood.

Me too. And my heart races. I do breathe more during the replay.

I graduated from Hanson HS in 1960. My Brother Danny has a large tobacco and beef cattle farm outside Hanson. I'll let you know the next time I visit, maybe we can meet up. You live "in town," I lived in the sticks close to Ashbyburg.

No, I don't live downtown Hanson. I live out on Island Ford Road. Out close to where you grew up.
