If UK and Duke are unbeaten selection Sunday which team is (mythical) #1 overall?

Duke still has ranked teams remaining on their schedule. @UL (5),@ST. John (24), @Norte Dame (13), @UVA (3), ND (13), UNC #18 (home & away).

Duke has seven games against ranked teams FIVE on the road.

To me this schedule might mean Duke overall I know this means little but, Duke has a very tough schedule IMHO this could put them ahead

Duke would probably pass Kentucky if it happened but they aren't going undefeated through that conference.

Depends entirely on the performances, both yet to come and what we've already seen, because UK's blown away the competition so far. They'd give UK the supposed edge imo.

I'd gather Duke would get the edge based on schedule - especially if they win impressively against one or more of the ranked teams on their schedule.

It would be who was the most dominant. if Duke blows away the schedule they have then they deserve it. But I'm like Will they ain't going undefeated in that conference. The ACC is very good this year.
I do think the SEC is better this year but it's still not close to the ACC.

The SEC looks to me about the same as it has every year for the past two decades.

One elite team. A large, miasmic middle. Two or three absolute dogs in the cellar.

Not sure I can remember a year when it's not been pretty much exactly like that. The only years it's different is when you have Florida and Kentucky at the top and both are ranked. But always there's that giant mess of teams there in the middle of the pack who just beat each other senseless.

This year Arkansas should be the team that establishes themselves as the second best. They've got a guy in Bobby Portis who is as good as anybody in the country. But not sure they'll be able to win on the road enough to put them in position to be a top 5 seed--which they should be with that talent.

I agree they won't go undefeated.

              However, that wasn't the hypothetical.......................

I think the point spread aspect hasn't been considered. If UK averages a 20 point margin through conference play, there is no way I see Duke passing them as the number one seed regardless of Dukes final SOS. UK has a very solid non-conference SOS of their own.

IMO regardless of the average margain of the win by us, Duke's schedule would put them at number 1 overall if we are both undefeated.

The team that will come in undefeated is maybe Gonzaga. Not sure who can get them in that conference. They've already beaten BYU and play them the second time at home. They get a mediocre Memphis team at home. Probably at St. Mary's in February is the best chance.

I'm not firmly sold on Arizona although I do think they win the Pac-12. But they're going to take some losses there. So I do think Gonzaga goes in as the #1 in the West even though Arizona beat them head-to-head.

Duke the #1 in the East going through Syracuse.

Kentucky the #1 in the South going through Houston.

The Midwest will be interesting. Probably still leaning toward Wisconsin, but another ACC team will likely be in the mix. Not sure the Big 12 is going to get a #1. Teams at the top aren't powerful enough even with Oklahoma's shocker last night.

Not a whole lot out there this year. This season's a mirror of 2012. Two very good teams, four or five dangerous teams, then a lot of sameness.

Do you see Virginia losing more games than Duke? I think UVA might challenge for that spot. Dook would get the nod if they both had the same record, of course, but UVA has a darn good team this year.

Virginia hasn't played much of a schedule. They've beaten one top 25 team in Maryland. I think they're going to take some losses when they have to get into the teeth of that league.

Still think with their defense that they'll be a high seed, but they aren't going to be a 1 or a 2 IMO. They could beat Duke definitely, but they're not the same caliber of team.

I don't see them as a dook-caliber team, either, but I do think they're better than most of the rest of their conference. Put it this way: the teams that I think can beat Virginia are the same teams that I think can beat dook. Both teams could finish with very similar records.

Maybe, but I'd be surprised if Duke lost more than twice.

Virginia, Louisville, Notre Dame, maybe Carolina, maybe NC State--those teams are going to beat each other up and all have 4-6 losses in the league.

Duke's the cream of that crop unless something weird happens.
