2023 QB -- Is UK in Trouble?

Realisticllly, we have no one in the QB room to step up next year when we lose Levis to the NFL. In fact, I'm not even sure we'll have a credible backup QB in 2023. Does anyone know what's going on beyond, "We'll be okay thru the transfer portal"?

I'm baffled that we don't have a credible backup for Will. Sheron (RS Fr.) was very good in h.s. at Somerset, Ky. Destin Wade (Fr.) was very good in h.s. Deuce Hogan, the transfer from Iowa, was a five star coming out of h.s. and yet we don't have an adequate backup.

Would it be ok to say “we’ll be ok thru the transfer portal” if that were known to be Stoops’ plan? It’s not like he’s going to come out and say that’s his plan. But I’m confident they’ll be in that market as much as anyone.

How that works out…anyone’s guess. Otherwise—yeah, rough learning curve next year for someone already in the mix.

How do we know? We've only seen 1 and he wasn't a bust. There was a great opportunity to more than 1 in the UT game. Why didn't we? That's how I'm baffled.

I feel this is the result of a much bigger problem. We have gone had five OQ in the ten years Stoops has been the head coach. In addition, except for last year, we have not had much offensive success. We have fired three OC and a lot of the fan base wants to fire the current OC. It's difficult to build recruiting relationships with such almost constant churn at OCs.

I'm a firm believer in the quote attributed to Einstein: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” so I have little faith that just firing the current OC and hiring a different one is likely to resolve the problem.

Maybe Beau Allen will come back.

Three months ago, speculation was that top-notch QBs in the portal would be banging on our door wanting to play in Scang’s pro-style offense. Clearly, that is not going to happen. Two months ago the rumor was that the kid form Boise State or someplace that threw for a ton of yards in his first two years and then left the team after the third game to preserve his redshirt would be coming here to play for Scang. That will not happen if we fire him. Wade may have as much potential as anyone — IF he and his brother do not enter the portal.

Just be glad you are not the guy who will have to figure this all out.

The Cats have 3 credible quarterbacks I'm those mentioned.
they get till next season to develop.
They don't have to be the second coming of Levis...they just need to be the guy(s) the team will follow.
AND the guy that fits whatever system we have.
Anyone ever dream Hooker would be the guy he has been?

Willing to give em all a shot when their time comes.

Fromer starting QB at Michigan Cade McNamara has entered the portal. He is a graduating serior and thus does not have to wait for the portsl to open.

Former Michigan starting quarterback Cade McNamara has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

There are several good ones that are planning to transfer. The QB from Boise State is transferring.

Interesting and should benefit someone handsomely. Article says grad transfer but could potentially play 2 more years at next stop.

After Michigan gets thumped by UGA in the playoffs maybe he’ll decide to come to the best conference.

I saw last night that Graham Mertz was likely to transfer to UK. I wonder if that suggests we have an offensive coordinator just waiting to be announced.

I heard somewhere that McNamera transferred to Iowa.

Matt Jones suggested Devin Leary of NC State is actually the first pick and Graham Mertz might be the backup.

I would kill to get Leary. Much more talented than Mertz, though heightened injury risks! And also look in the portal for a young QB with actual potential to follow Leary in '23-24 and beyond.
