    Shawnkel Knight-Goff De-Commits from Kentucky

We barely got to know him, and he's already gone.

Not sure we're making much progress on next year's recruiting. Six 3-stars so far isn't exciting me.

I hope we're not seeing the fallout from consecutive seven win seasons and losing our only two bowl games of the coach Stoops era.

In 2013 & 2014, Stoops could sell the promise of a changed program, early playing time, etc. As he enters his sixth season as the Head Coach, UK is pretty much a known quantity. We can all debate whether his record to date should be better or not. I guess I’m saying there’s not a huge positive vibe or buzz around the program right now. In fact, there’s scuttlebutt to suggest that the Marcus Walker incident is being used against us in recruiting. UK simply has little margin for error in these sorts of things.

It feels like such a cliche to say this, but 2018 is a critical year for Stoops and the program. A good season will keep the ball rolling, but a bad season could set the stage for worse to come. Here’s hoping for a good season.

Nah. What was it? Two years ago when some of our idiot fans started a nasty rumor in the hope to get Stoops fired? I say he bounced back pretty good from that. This isn't Alabama or Michigan.

I'm always hesitant to interpret other people's comments, but I didn't see anything in bigblue4life's post that indicated that he was saying coach Stoops should be fired if the upcoming season is a disappointing one. I will say this, unless the majority of the fans, and the decision makers, are going to be satisfied with 7-5 regular season records and losing bowl games, this staff is going to have to take the next step at some point. As always, I'll try to take a wait and see attitude.

I've gotten to the point where I'm getting a little -meh- about the star ratings. I like Matt and others point to check the offer sheets.
it IS a bit early on, so there's that. It looks like Brohm at Purdue uses the same card Stoops did.....big time conference, playing time.
Win 8, 9 games and the kids take notice. As far as Kentucky, the high school kids have only seen UK go bowling ANYwhere, much less win, in their life.

Another winning season helps a lot. Three winning seasons in a row starts getting notice.

Thanks Matt. You pretty much nailed it. I’ve long been on record as wanting Stoops to succeed here at UK. I just hope we can take the next step forward and beat some teams we’re not expected to beat.

I want us to be competitive enough to have the chance to win all games, and if we have a QB who can be the difference maker, we should be that team this year. A lot of pieces are in place.

What I HOPE happened is the young man's family did much the same as mine would....don't give Stoops your word THEN shop yourself around for a better deal and leave UK with an unfilled slot....take your officials, THEN give your word.

not likely in these days, I guess. I can wish.

I think it was Mamma that balked when the kid gave his commit without her being on board. Hopefully her feathers are smoothed and the kid can remake his choice with her blessing.
