Is Jarren Williams' Commitment Solid? UPDATE: Williams De-Commits for a Second Time

A post-game interview with Joe Mussatto may have revealed some lingering uncertainty in Williams' commitment to Kentucky. Williams said he still receives texts from some other schools, which is to be expected, but followed that with, "I do listen to them, but right now I'm going to Kentucky."

Does that "right now" part cast doubt, or is this a non-issue?

There's always some doubt, in my mind, until they sign on the dotted line.

This makes me feel a little better about Jarren.

Yesterday’s stories about Williams don’t sound good. Gave me the impression that he’s gone if we don’t look really good through the remainder of the season.

If Alabama or another top team comes calling, none of our recruits are "solid." And I don't blame them in the slightest.

I get that, but at the same time there's only so much playing time to go around at a place like Alabama. It's unlikely that anyone starts over Hurts while he's there, then they've got the Hawaiian kid who, by all accounts, is every bit as good (maybe even better). That would leave a guy like Williams with, what, one year to start, IF they don't bring in someone even better while he's there?

I think anytime we are in a recruiting battle with Bama, we are more often than not going to lose. So no, his commitment isn't solid until he signs.

Based on the interview, with his dad, that I read, on Twitter this morning, it sounds as if our biggest threat is from Ohio State, not Bama. It seems they have either lost, or are about to lose, their first choice to Bama and now they're doubling back and trying to poach Jarren to replace him. Of course our floundering isn't helping any as his dad stated Jarren wants to play for a winner. Of course as we all know what we fans say on sites, such as this, is the main thing the recruits look at when deciding were to go. If we just put on a happy face and say we're satisfied win or lose, players like Jarren will flock to Lexington.

I think his father was quoted as saying he wanted to go where the school was winning in the context of questions regarding contact with other schools, including Alabama. Jarren later tweeted not to believe everything you read. He is still committed. I agree, nothing is official until the signed commitment letter. Even then there are some who rescind their commitment. I think we have a very good chance of seeing Williams in Kentucky Blue. I also think there is a good chance we will pick up some commitments that will open up as a result of coaches leaving.

Papa Williams called in to KSR today to reaffirm his son’s commitment. Said Jarren plans to enroll in January. Take it fwiw.

He was supposed to have been. I hope he was.

Not to be more of a wet blanket than usual, but I would swap the young man for a couple d-linemen with a bit of an attitude.
                            or ....
Never mind. I just think about one of our most highly ranked classes because of M.Newton and R.Massakowski.
For me the lines are the foundation to everything.
