It's probably similar to college recruiting, it depends on the needs of the various NFL teams.

For those who follow UK bb, every year you see guys leaving school when the fans think they don't have a chance of playing pro ball.

ESPN reports that only 22 running backs (including 3 fullbacks) were drafted in the 2016 NFL draft of 7 rounds. Doesn't bode well for Boom. Hope he comes back!

If that ranking is close, Boom would be an undrafted free agent. Plenty of those guys do fine, but I selfishly hope he stays. As far as being injury prone, for me that would cause me to go sooner than later....only so many years in a players professional life.

Exactly, Bill. Another injury to that elbow, and his dream of playing in the NFL is probably gone.

Should he decide to go, best of luck to the young man and thanks.

From what I have seen when the cameras have been on the sidelines, he has grown quite a bit in his leadership qualities this year.

Sometime it is not so much if the player is ready or not, but how the overall draft at a given position stacks up. I have no idea if this will be a stronger year for RBs coming out of college or if next year will be stronger. I think that would be a major consideration in any decision. Then again, there are times when a player is just set on going and all logic is out the window. I fear that may be the case here.

This is exciting stuff. We're going to a bowl and discussing whether or not one of the stars of the team will leave early for the NFL. It's been awhile since we've done either.

Is this just your opinion or have you heard something that would suggest he's leaving?

I suspect there will be more than a little research done after the bowl game. I'm sure they will get feedback from pro teams and it will depend on where the "final" projections put him in the draft. It's a business decision. I don't think there are 22 better running backs going into the draft ... or 26 if he was projected as 27th. I haven't seen many as explosive as Boom, but that may be my limited observations.
