Here is wishing Luke Wright good luck. I guess this would be the team you would want to face for your first start.

And that's precisely the reason he is starting.

Yup. So many people on here have asked why we don't see a different QB in games where we played on the road. You don't introduce a kid to college ball at a place like Tennessee.

I said in another thread UK could win with Matt Elam at QB against AP. That was pretty close to it. Give thanks to UK for scheduling about the worst team they could have to make sure of a win.

I thought Luke did a pretty good job for his first game

After we got the big lead, and they brought him in for mop-up duty, he seemed to be more relaxed. Removing pressure will do that.

It sure answered the question for me as to why Johnson has been the QB. Now my other question is why they didn't pull the red shirt.

I don't know why they didn't pull it when Drew first went down. With each game Johnson played, I knew there was less and less chance Hoak would be activated. Bill Curry is the only coach I know of that pulled a RS for one game.

Maybe they thought Johnson gave the better chance to win? We don't see practice every day so we have no idea how good Hoak has looked. If Johnson was the better play then why burn the RS for nothing?

When Johnson first came in the team was doing very well. Didn't he win like five of his first six games with the one being against Bama? There's really no point in playing anyone besides him if they are winning. With Georgia we were in position to win. Really the only game you could say we could've pulled it was at Tennessee. But, why in the world would you pull a red shirt for one game at Tennessee knowing we had Austin Peay waiting to give us that 6th win? Do we REALLY think Hoak would've won at Tennessee in his first ever college game? He won't be starting next year so that's when he'll have the chance to get experience in games we are up big. Then he can take that experience and compete for the job as a RS sophomore. There's no point in exposing a true freshman to 100k fans on the road in his first game.

FYI -- Interesting stat: Among FBS QBs, Stephen Johnson is ranked 91st in Passing Yards and 68th in Passing Efficiency. Patrick Towles (Boston College) is ranked 96th in Passing Yards and 99th in Passing Efficiency.

How exactly did Towles get to play this year? Did he graduate early?

Yes he was a graduate transfer.
