Dear Mr Brizendine,
Thank you so much for thinking of our precious KYNUT, Norman. He would have loved having his name associated with anything involving UK, but most especially the sports programs which he followed from earliest childhood in Catlettsburg ( I just misspelled it Cal ettsburg, for which he would have kidded me).
UK sports were a lifelong source of pleasure and consternation ( he enjoyed both emotions ) . He coached locally when his kids were in school and always had a keen eye for what a player could/should do to improve, which he carried into his viewing of all UK competitions. He once told me, a Virginian by birth, that UK was the single greatest source of pride for any TRUE Kentuckian.
I shall forward your thoughtful email to our family; our grandsons, Clint Lowe and Logan Limburg, as well as son Mac McPeek (who runs Norman's business) and daughter Tammy Lowe really love attending the games when their jobs permit. The basketball game they all attended with Norman at Rupp the 2014-15 year is a memory they treasure and will be telling their own grandkids about.
This may seem odd to add, but Norman found out about the terminal cancer only a few weeks before he died; by then he was very weak and bedridden; however, he refused any pain medication and was able to sit up through those last UK games of the basketball tournament; we all expected UK to go undefeated. The night of the loss, our grandkids and a 6 months old great granddaughter were all gathered in Norman's bedroom to share the game. When the loss came at the end of the game, they all sat in stunned silence. Norman said, "Well, that's the end; you can give me the pain medications now." He took the morphine, and an hour later he fell into a sleep, refused food or water, and never really "woke up" again in this life. I now think that team was the only thing that kept him going for so long.
Thanks to you and the Wildcat Nation online who gave him many pleasurable hours of UK sports talk and friendship. For several years, many nights he would be in so much pain; he would get up and go to his computer, and I would find him sometimes at 2 or 3 am, reading and posting to the WCN chatroom.
When I met Norman, he told me I had to adopt BBN and wear blue ( I was a Vandy alum. and a teacher who always rooted for every young person on both teams to do their best) . He turned me into a UK basketball fan; I simply could not watch a game with him without becoming excited and found myself gradually rooting for UK more than the opposition. When UK hired Coach Calipari, I was totally enchanted. He is the first and only coach I have truly admired enough to say I would want my son to play for his teams. He is a great role model and a class operation (except the night he was on hip pain meds and got himself extracted from the South Carolina game, funny that night).
GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Rick, thanks so much for sending a picture of daddy's name on the tailgate trailer. What a wonderful thing you all did! It just means a lot to me that you all thought so much of him. He was a special man..............and you would have to look hard to find a bigger Wildcat fan. I miss him so much and get teary eyed at the beginning of every UK game knowing that he is not here to watch it with us.
I am his younger daughter, Tammy. I was there the day we met all of you tailgating, along with my son, Clint and nephew, Logan. We came to two football games last year and tried to find you all but evidently none of us had a very good memory because we just managed to keep getting lost! Ha,ha. We haven't been able to get away this year to come to any games but we are sitting at home cheering our wildcats on! My son is all geared up for basketball season and hasn't missed a second of midnight madness, the blue and white game and any other program that has to do with our wildcats.
Again, thank you so much for contacting Dolly. You all have a great group.....daddy talked of you often. It was very thoughtful of you all to remember KY NUT! Please stay in touch.
