Just a question for you guys

Looking on some fan sites, there seems to be a hard break line....a coaching staff that follow a college protocol....grades, discipline, character....or just win baby.....no matter what. I know I get awfully frustrated at times and jump on the do whatever it takes side....then have to remember Ive got forty years on these kids and they just may not be ready for what I think Rick Telander called age appropriate pro football.

Just being honest....is UK out of sync with what power five football is today? And which side do you see yourself...still patient and waiting or ready to just say do whatever you need to win...because most of these kids have dreams of pro football just as power five basketball players dream of the NBA?

As long as we're not breaking any NCAA rules and as long as our players aren't breaking the law, then I don't care how we win. Just do it.

If I'm hiring coaches, I'm not hiring them to be choir boys. I'm hiring them to win, something we have failed to do much for about seven decades.

It is unclear to me that it is an either or situation...

If you are going to win, you will have some scumbags on your team. You will need some high character people as well. I don't know how Saban or Myer would handle drug trafficking charges or other law and order stuff... to me if you are caught committing serious misdemeanors and felonies you probably aren't helping the team.

Stoops has had like 10 or 15 guys in trouble with the UK code of conduct and/or the law. Seems like half get kicked off the team.... seems about right.

As far as NCAA rules go... I mostly don't care at all, do what everyone else is doing; but be smart enough not to get caught. Seems to be working for Ole Miss.

I wholeheartedly agree with the two previous posters. I've been sick and tired of UK worrying about their image, for a long time now. I bet U of L could care less what people think about them (that's probably mostly jealous UK fans anyway). Instead, I'm sure, they're elated with the success of their team(s).

Curci won like nobody in the last 50 years. Hell, I was a student and it was awesome watching UK destroy teams in '76 and '77. But he got caught cheating and the NCAA came down on our program like a ton of bricks. Ask Clairborne if it was worth it. Mumme had 1 winning season out of 4 and he cheated. The NCAA once again came down hard on our program. Ask Brooks if it was worth it. Both cases set our program back a long, long time. I don't have the answer, but I do know for certain that hiring people is like taking a stroll in a minefield.

I want us to win again and do whatever it takes as long as it aint breaking any rules. Now a days NCAA and all their news rules is getting to much, they need to take some away. You have some schools doing illegal things and not getting caught until years later.

I want them to figure out how the other teams get the better players and not get put on probation and do the same. I don;t care how its done, as long as they start winning and they can keep from being penalized.

(Chuckle).... I pretty much agree. Years ago I played Madden college football..always took the coach option.
After a few go rounds, I took Kentucky, Arkansas State, Cincinatti and a couple other teams to the national title in a six season span...all I had to do was go on probation in about year three but keep my job. It all rolled after that.

                Maybe life imitates art....

Just win. The extreme would be Baylor or Penn State as far as what to avoid but more times than not, sell your soul.

I think some of this conversation came up when it was made known that the LB from Alabama had weed in his car as well. Ive seen some mentioning at UK he would be kicked off the team and referring to Hatcher. If I recall correctly, Hatcher had multiple pounds of pot, not just a little for himself. IMO, if the kids get caught smoking pot I could understand a little punishment. Maybe half a game, extra running for the practice week, etc. But for people to compare the two situations is just ridiculous. The amount Hatcher had was worth him being tossed.

To the OP, as long as we don't break the rules I don't care. I would rather have a six or seven win choir boy than a 10 win guy who is always being looked at for something.

^ For what Hatcher had, he deserved to do some time. I'm a "Do it Right" guy. I never want to win at all costs, to me it's not worth it.

I love it. Let's compare NCAA punishment records over the last, say, 50 years.

That's right. Sometimes I think "Little Brother" actually refers to the snarky UK Football Fan.

The NCAA has kind of become a joke as far as enforcing anything. Bruce Pearl is coaching away. Syracuse and Boheim...lol.
The stuff about Noth Carolina would have devastated Cleveland State.....and the Louisville basketball hooker mess.....Really?

Big dog seldom get bit hard....especially if they bring in TV revenue. Kansas and the Maloof boys. Penn State reprieved. Auburn and Cam Newton. Tennessee every other year. Alabama had the rep as the worst and most arrogant repeat offender in NCAA history...and has the bank account and national titles to go with that rep.

The three key words for the NCAA are self imposed sanctions.....which means the school is saying yep, I was crooked, but trust me to punish myself, okay?

                            Oooooooopsie....sorry, wrong soapbox.

You have scumbags on losing teams as well. You got your miscreants on just about every sort of team though. I just want a clean program, but let's not fool ourselves. It's hard to get the top tier recruits to come to Kentucky. Here, it mostly falls on the coaches.
