As for "who" started this rumor is unknown but I found it awful strange that it's coming from several different outlets. Who knows when something will happen in regards to this stuff. All I can say is that my source is very legit and almost always...where there's smoke, there's fire.

It's because those outlets are perpetuating the same BS rumor by the same BS originator. Multiple outlets reporting on a perpetrated fraud doesn't make that fraud more believable.................

So as you can see in the "Source of the Rumor" thread, the guy who started the whole thing has fessed up. Do you still stand by your source?

The past 24-hours have not been too kind to me. However, I feel the need to address and correct situations when I am in the wrong.

So with that being said:

Coach Stoops,

It is with great regret for me to admit that I am the person who was in charge of the blog site, blueandwhitetimes.blogspot.com, that published the damaging blog post falsely accusing you of something that hurt your reputation personally and as the head coach of the University of Kentucky football program, without taking the necessary steps to correctly identify it as completely untruthful.

In a foolish and complete lack of regard, I told a friend of mine to write the post on my blog and post it.

I immediately regretted the decision of doing such a thing, and then immediately pulled the post off of my blog, and any social media platforms I am on.

I utterly failed to realize how much damage this could do to you and your family and for that I cannot put into words how truly sorry I am for the actions I took.

It was an incredibly cheap, and immature thing for me to to you. I realize the damage I’ve done and there is not a moment that goes by that I wish I could go back and not publish the article.

I am willing to take the necessary actions to make this situation correct and would love to personally apologize to you if at all possible, as well as continue to support the University of Kentucky football program from the stands.

Not sure I would've attached my name to the apology. The guy will be lucky if he doesn't get sued for libel.

I don't really buy the rumors but I will say that I don't *think* that site was the main culprit.

I can't say that for sure, but I saw some stuff earlier in the week last week about Stoops on another message board. (And then there was the thread here.) I believe the blogger was just posting stuff he'd heard.

My hesitation is due to the fact that it would be so easy for boosters or fans to basically create a situation to try and get around the enormous buy-out. The timing of it seems suspicious to me.

This blog may have been the nexus of that but I don't think so.

He still made himself an easy target for anyone (Stoops) jonesing for a little retribution. His apology could quite easily be interpreted as an admission of guilt.

It's shameful, I'm a critic of Stoops but I would never lower myself to where I would be proud of something trying to destroy the character of Stoops. Hopefully, this didn't gain much traction and fell into the category of random internet BS from a site with no validity and now will never have any. There's plenty to be critical of but I've never seen or heard of anything regarding who he is as a person that is nothing short of having extremely high morals.

I think the first sentence of his apology is telling. "The past 24 hours have not been kind to me." sounds like somebody who is not sorry for what he said, but sorry that he got caught. This is the world we live in nowadays: people have discovered that it doesn't matter if what you say is truthful, just if enough people believe it.
