UK defense takes another hit, struggles in first full scrimmage

The bad news: Kentucky’s defense had issues tackling in its first live scrimmage of the season and is struggling with depth at some key positions.
And here’s defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot with the good news: “I saw plenty of things we can get better at. The good thing is we have time to do it.”
Kentucky has roughly three weeks before the season opener and the defense hopes this first week of fall camp will be the worst of it for them. The difficulties have included losing starting defensive lineman Regie Meant for undisclosed reasons for an undisclosed amount of time.
And then on Saturday, Coach Mark Stoops announced that likely starting safety Darius West will miss the rest of the season after injuring the patellar tendon in his left knee on Friday.
