Practice report: The long ball, the great grape debate, brand development

The long ball: Quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw said the UK signal callers were overthrowing every deep ball, but there has been a steady improvement. “We were just chucking the ball as far as we can throw it, and that's not how you throw a deep ball,” he explained. He told the quarterbacks to stop trying to make every deep ball a work of art. “Now we’re getting to the point where we’re throwing the ball where we give the receiver a chance,” Hinshaw said. “That’s our goal. If you give the receiver a chance then you have a chance to catch it. If you overthrow it, we have zero chance.” UK’s offense is now at a place where the wide outs are running their routes and getting in position to make a play and the QBs are getting better at finding them for explosive plays. Specifically it sounds like backup Stephen Johnson had struggled with throwing the ball over wide receiver’s heads, but he’s improving, Hinshaw said. “He needs to relax and complete those balls.”

Barker may be trying to improve his brand or whatever; but he sounds like he has been a major a-hole since coming to UK. Guy has a bad wrap from the AD to the equipment room!?! What gives.

I don't know what the equipment thing is about, but when a player is getting into fights and creating disturbances on campus (the air gun incident), generally A.D.'s aren't very happy about that.

'had' - that's the takeaway from the interview.

That's what I took from it as well. Let's hope Drew lives up to the praise he has been receiving.

'has' at the time of his conversation with Hinshaw was the take away point of my post. So we have 6 months of "trying to change his brand" compared with two years of having a bad brand.

I think what Darin Hinshaw point to Drew was, it is not enough to just stay out of trouble, you have to work to repair what people think about you. so he has had 6 months of trying to make up for 2 bad days. you help a lady that got knocked down, you get 5 seconds of that was nice, you knock a lady down, and it have a shelf live of a year or more. Darin was saying go above and beyond, to repair your brand.

Drew had a bad brand when Hinshaw got here but since that time he's gone about fixing it for the last 8 months so, no - it's not that he currently HAS a bad brand but when Hinshaw got here he HAD a bad brand. I'm not sure why you can't see the distinction.

A winning season will quiet those who have a less than positive opinion about Mr Barker. Should there be any naysayers left, after this season, those in his corner will drown them out anyway.

I understand the distinction. I'm saying he sounds like an ass.I hope he has gotten things straightened out and I will root for his success.

Still, my original post was simply a comment on the fact that people from the AD to the equipment room thought ill of him. (either previously or presently, it makes no difference to my point) That was quite an achievement in two years time.
