The thing I keep thinking about is we make mediocre teams look like bowl contenders. And our two long timers...HC and DC....are defensive specialists. Wonder if Mason would leave Vanderbilt for a defensive coordinator job at UK?
It was all on Barker. Towles is the difference maker. lol
This coaching staff gets one more shot next year imo. If nothing changes, start over again.
Wrong interpretation.
When you say the staff will get one more year, that's being unfair to yourself, and dishonest about the actual event.
It's not that the staff gets one more year,
***It's that the administration believes they can steal one more year of your life, one more ounce of your support, and one more year worth of your money, before you finally get so fed up that you'll cut them off.***
If we're going to be forced to sit through another year of this, the first 2 people that need to leave are DJ and Schlarman. Wouldn't be opposed to Shannon getting the axe either.
Agree this team does not deserve the bowl. I would say the only plus would be the extra practices. I think we have the whole not able to call an offensive play in the 2nd half down pat by now. We do not need any more time to perfect that. We also do not need more time to learn how to to tackle, or stop a dual threat QB for out D.
Maybe the Special teams coach could use the extra practice. Oops we dont have one.
Not sure "extra practice" with this coaching staff would really be beneficial. What many of them need is extra time to update their resume!

That's the truth.
Cynical look at things. Of course it's frustrating and all money driven. But when you're talking about growth, improvement and building something special, the players and coaches deserve some kind of commitment instead of the constant house-cleaning every 2/3 years. One more year gives Stoops another year as a head coach, another year with his recruits and another year to get over that 2nd half hump. This is not basketball. Sometimes you need more than a couple of people and a couple of years to make a difference.

Cynical?... maybe. But, calling someone cynical is like telling them they take the worst view on the taste of mud.
I'll tell you who deserves some kind of commitment, the fans. The players and coaches were given the support, and we are where we are.
True, this is not basketball. Because, in basketball, we would have fired the coach after last season. This is year three. And we don't need to fire the coach because of the record, we need to fire the coach because of the play.
We're not 5-7 and nearer the hump. We're 5-7 and where after season 1. If we had the same schedule as the first year, we'd have a 3 win season.
This years 5-7 was much worse than last years 5-7. If you look the schedule 8 home games (no LSU) no Bama, Ole Miss or Arkansas. We got the last place team in the West, we got Louisville at Home, we got an average FLA team at home. We barley beat EKU. This was much worse. Do not look at W's and L's. Look at level of play.
