    Spurrier to Retire?

That's what Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans is hearing...and reporting.

He's an arrogant prick. Glad he's going out when we've gotten the best of him the last two years. Good riddance.

He started at Duke with a losing record and ended at USC with a losing record.

I assume he just couldn't take the losing. No matter what you think about him he was a great coach. One of the best the SEC has ever seen.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier told his players and coaches Monday night that he is retiring immediately, sources told ESPN.com.

                Kentucky fan since 1971.

That's for sure. I was really hoping we could get him when he took the So. Car. job.

I'd expect any of you would be jumping for joy if he had ended up a Cat. Even the haters up top probably. I couldn't stand the guy when I was a kid and he was at UF but that was only because he was consistently better. If you put bias aside he's definitely one of the best coaches the conference has ever seen. Call him arrogant or whatever you want but it was his style. And that style is far more entertaining to listen to than any of the nothing speak we get from most coaches these days. I'd rather hear a coach say, "You can't spell citrus without UT" any day than hear some coach talk up UT like we're some juggernaut of a team when you know good and well it isn't the case.

I will certainly miss him. He's the guy that I love to hate so much that I end up just loving him
Wish that I was on ol Rocky Top

My guess is he saw how he's hurting their recruiting.

One national analyst has already named Bobby Petrino the leading candidate for the job -- assuming they cannot get Chip Kelly. Charlie Strong was #5 on the list.

Chip Kelly must be on everyone's wish list. He's reported to be So. Cal's leading candidate as well.

If Chip Kelly goes back to the colleges it will be at the west coast USC. If South Carolina wants to completely sell out their integrity I'm sure Petrino will be on the next plane, motorcycle or whatever mode of transportation can get him to Columbia the fastest.
