Hope Horton is doing OK. Neck injuries can linger.

first SEC road win in years. Two in a row over SCjr and the ol ball coach. This was really big, and the team came up big at gut check time. Better than me, at any rate.

Now, if we can just find some way to break that streak against Florida.....ah, well....that's another day.
Enjoy the win and heal up guys.
Maybe next week we get some guys back from injury and suspension.
That will be nice in itself.

By the way....Westry, the frosh I had been concerned about starting. Never mind. Credited for a sack and the big, big, big, big INT when it counted.
      Way to go, young man.

Obviously a good win. A small baby step in the right direction by winning a road game in the SEC. Second half was ugly. But give the defense credit for holding them to field goals. Then the big run back on the extra point that may have turned the tide along with the interception late. I said at halftime that USC losing Mitch was a bad break for UK and it almost came back haunt them. Spurrier mixed things up on offense in 2nd half and kept UK on its heels most of the half. The big criticism of the offensive play calling is when you have a third and passing situation is to throw the ball to the sticks. Don't throw it short to a back or receiver and expect them to run for a first down. That will rarely get you a first down. I will never understand why you call a play like that. The only reason would be that they don't have confidence in Towles to not make a mistake.
The win gives UK a good chance now to get to at least six wins. A win next week and it could be an even better season. UK also had a nice crowd in Columbia. Good and loud at the end.

Does anyone else think Dawson called a terrible second half? We badly needed some first downs to rest our D and he kept getting us in 2nd and 3rd and longs, then running it up the middle. I would like to see a little more aggressiveness from him to help move the chains. Overall though, our D stepped up when they needed to and held them to 3 instead of 7.

It wasn't the best that's for sure. It looked to me they have no confidence in Towles not to make a mistake. So they kept it very conservative, That will get you beat on down the road against a better team.

Spurrier said in the post game that SC started disguising their defense more in the 2nd half. They also played better.

You can say that the play calling was more conservative in the third quarter; but after running it down their throats in the first half, with a lead, on the road, it makes sense to try and run the ball.

The multiple holding calls (one that up a great 1st down pass) were not on the play calling.

I thought Pat looked pretty shaky at times and the whole team seemed to have the yips in the 3rd, I don't blame them keeping the ball on the ground. If they had chucked it around the yard and thrown an INT with the lead or had several 3 and outs with no time coming off the clock we would be screaming about that....

I think everyone (coaches and players) learned some good lessons tonight.

                I didn't like it.

They abandoned the short slant. They started with it early, found better success with the jumbo package l, tried to maintain it after halftime and USC adjusted. They utilized the short slant once but there was a holding penalty and didn't go back.

Glad to see Towles with the draw when USC put in their pass rush package to counteract their push.

I don't see an offensive identity yet.

I can't complain too much about 2-0. Next week is for a bowl game.

Not as much as last year, but I'd like to see Towles keep the ball a little more. We know he can run over people.

Please don't take my post as complaining. Yes, their D played better but I think some of that was us helping them. There were drives we ran it twice, were in third and long, and ran it again. That can make any defense look great. I understand we had the lead, it worked in the first half, and we wanted to pound it out. But, good coaches adjust. Did we really think Spurrier wouldn't figure that out and adjust? We should have adjusted as well because against good coaches and good teams the same thing won't work all game. Again, not complaining, just think it would have done some good to help our D by using the quick slant or WR screen to keep them a little more honest. In the end, the play calling got us a W, so it couldn't have been that bad.

                      What a tremendous win.

That's the exact kind of game that UK football tends to let slip away. The fact that we didn't, on the road, against a desperate opponent, is definitely a sign that a new era is here.

Re: the third quarter, I thought Horton could have helped. The holding calls were the real killers but Mychal may've been able to grind out some necessary yards on those 1st and 2nd downs.

Another thing that UK probably needs to do when the running game starts to bog down is feed Dorian Baker.

We FINALLY have an SEC-caliber, stud-in-the-making wide receiver who looks like he has a future after college. I think when you've got a guy like that you have to use him more. The guy is a total stud. Needs to have his number called a little more.

Exactly, last year we let the FLA, MSU and Louisville games get away from us. This year both our games have been those types of games and we did what we needed to do to win. We've made BIG plays when we needed them, something that hasn't happened much historically.

Horton suffered either a neck (H-L) or head (coach Stoops) injury on his second carry of the game.

The play calling was about the same in the 2nd half as it was in the 1st, but we executed much better the 1st half and had SC on their heels. Lesson to be learned, execute every play regardless of the score and you will destroy teams like we should have last night. We are a better team than SC, we have Big Play caliber players, we just need to realize it. Very proud of our team, and especially the D. Holding SC to FG's instead of TD's was the difference.
