No Ryan Flannigan, but Mark Stoops says UK is ready

Some quick thoughts from Mark Stoops’ final press briefing before Saturday night’s game at South Carolina:
No Ryan Flannigan. The senior linebacker is “very doubtful” for Saturday thanks to that shoulder injury suffered in pre-season camp. Flannigan missed the season-opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, as well. Shoulder injuries can linger. You have to wonder if this will be something that will hamper Flannigan all season. You hope not.

I was really hoping Flannigan would be ready to go. We really need him. Our freshmen linebackers better grow up fast.

Their strength (running the ball) is our weakness (stopping the run). That's never a good thing.

No, but maybe we can load up and make their QB beat us and stay in the game that way. He looked very shaky for the most part last week.

I'm of the mind that if Kentucky sustains drives and scores in the red zone, we'll have a chance. I thought South Carolina looked at the very least as average as UK did. At times they were pretty bad.

So it's not like we're rolling in to face Spurrier's Florida team. I think it will be winnable. But if you're piling up a deluge of three-and-outs and only scoring on a couple of big plays, that won't get it done because eventually--like last week--the defense isn't going to be able to muster up the energy necessary for an entire 60 minutes.

In my opinion, one thing's for sure, unless the ole ball coach has completely lost it, So. Car. will come out running the ball, and will continue to do so until such time as we prove we can stop them.

I sure hope Hatcher has grown up and done all that's been asked of him. "D" certainly needs him after this upcoming game. Heck, we need him in this game.

I read that they are going to be missing one of their better secondary players. I also notice Cooper was wearing a knee brace last week. He hobbled a bit so he's not 100 percent. Bouncing back doesn't happen in a week. Unfortunately, there are more than a few teams having to deal with injuries and suspensions going into week 2. I'm sure just about every team will come out and run it right at us until we prove we can stop them. But Spurrier's weakness is he loves to throw the ball. He got criticized for throwing it instead of running it last year. He doesn't care ... if some want to criticize him. I've seen him put some really crazy formations on the field. It could be an interesting game.

We need Hatcher to step up. Perhaps this is the game we see the involvement of our TE? I want to see more Horton this game. I love Boom and Kemp, but Horton is the IMO the power back we have been missing for years. He played sparingly last week but looked slim, quick, and powerful.

Hatcher is still sitting out until next week.

Stoops said his team would be ready and they were. Florida is up next and is a huge game. Not that any game doesn't have significance, when you are trying to be bowl eligible. I know it is early to be heaping on platitudes or nicknames. But, what comes to my mind, after these two games so far is toughness. Go Cats!
