Any B/W impressions from WCN attendees?

    Anyone? Beuhler? Beuhler?

From writeup on SoB, I love that the defense is 'attacking' the ball. Sounded like Minchey looked comfortable in the offense and some newcomers made themselves known. Hard to take much from a scrimmage, of course, but was curious about first impressions.

Kinda hard to gauge how things will be come this fall. I think Minchey looked decent but with all the limitations to protect him, and with several guys sitting out, I don’t think he got to show his true ability. Ward looked pretty good himself. I think he could be a very capable backup. He’s a bigger body than Minchey too.

What I liked was the tempo. It’s gonna be a culture shock come this fall. People are going to have to adjust to not being able to go to the concession stand or restroom between plays. I know Stein has said the tempo will be situational and today may have just been them trying to get as many plays in as they could in the shortened time, but I think we will go “Fast Paste” more often than not.

I think our Defense will surprise a few this year as well. They definitely were aggressive we will be pressuring QB’s a lot more than in the past. Not sure if that will make us susceptible to big plays or not, but there weren’t a ton of really big plays today.

Willie Rodriguez is gonna be a beast this year I think.

I know it was very limited, but I liked what I saw of Ward last year - a lot. I felt he showed a lot of confidence and poise in the very limited time he played and acted as if he knew he belonged. While I'm glad to have Minchey, I think, with Stein as his coach, Ward would have been pretty decent this year, also.

I like that we'll be capable of going with tempo, as expected. I REALLY like the defense being more proactive rather than being passive. It may indeed lead to more explosive plays given up, but I'm hopeful it also results in more interceptions, forced fumbles, sacks, negative plays, forcing the QB to throw early, getting off the field on 3rd and 5+ consistently, etc. Enough of conceding anything - play freakin' defense. Sounds like that's what we're going to do.
