Kentucky Football Spring Practice Notes: "This passing game is going to be crazy."

The Kentucky football team has officially surpassed the midway point of spring practice. Following practice No. 8, members of the media chatted with safeties coach Josh Christian-Young and a pair of cornerbacks, Terhyon Nichols and Grant Grayton.

When interviewing coaches after practice, they rarely want to single out individuals. It takes much less prying when speaking with their peers.

The reports of Kentucky’s passing attack have the BBN’s attention. This might take it a step further. The players guarding the wide receivers were asked to share what fans will like about the Kentucky offense.

“They’re going to love Shane Carr,” said Grayton. “Shane Carr is very explosive. Kenny Minchey‘s very accurate. The passing game is going to be crazy. The run game is also really good too. Overall, it’s just a really good offense.”

Grayton and Nichols each described Carr as “twitchy,” while Nichols added that DJ Miller and Hardley Gilmore have been a handful. The cornerbacks love how much of the playbook is at their disposal. Jay Bateman is asking them to do more than the previous regime, but Minchey’s accuracy isn’t making their job any easier.

“We haven’t had too many picks.”

I do expect better offensive football. But, didn't we hear how great Brock Vandegriff was looking in spring practice? And Calzada? And so many before them. Everyone looks great in spring. How many AAs in the B/W game have we seen over the years that hardly saw the field in real games? On paper, our WR corps will be below average in the SEC, based on previous production and HS recruiting rankings. With Stein orchestrating a new, presumably more creative attack, we should definitely see some positive changes. But, let's not get too far out over our skis, OK? Look at our schedule. Look at our opponents' rosters compared with ours. We'll have a talent disadvantage in many of our games. Doesn't mean we can't or won't win some of those. But, let's see how things look Labor Day weekend and beyond before we start making travel arrangements for a bowl game.

I'm not saying we'll win "x" number of games, but I feel very confident we'll be more entertaining than the last few seasons.

^I'm thinking that bar is pretty low, wouldn't we all? I mean, rolling up 50-60 yards every quarter pretty much sucks the excitement out of watching the offense 'perform'. Our offense, both scheme and execution, was offensive for the past 2 years. Hard to imagine it could get much less entertaining.
