I thought the TV announcers were just plain bad. Kept talking about the holes our O-Line opened up all night. Someone said (Matt Dillion) maybe that for us to win over 5 games Pat would need to have a 65% completion rate. could not be a truer statement. Look at his rate tonight, about 44% and we almost lost.

Pat was staring down recievers all night. Pretty easy to defend IMO. New OC could be the reason. I'll give Pat a 1 game cushion. MUST deliver at USC though.

It was a win but that's about all the good you can say about it. Defense is just awful. If you give up 33 points and nearly 500 yards to ULL what's going to happen when you play Auburn,UT and UGA. They will get 60 without breaking a sweat. I'm really doubting my picks of them beating Florida and UL. After seeing this game its hard to see them winning those games. We'll see what adjustments they make for next week and hope for best.

Agreed. Will take a wait and see approach. Wish I could say we can only improve from here but we know that it can get worse. Hope they all look in the mirror and decide to play every play, every down, every inch, every block and every tackle till the whistle blows.

Stoops staying positive in the post game comments. Did not blame any one thing except they were out of sync. Said they had a lot to clean up and they are happy to be 1-0 not the other way around. Pretty basic stuff.

Pretty awful second half by Towles. Also pretty bad play on D with the exception of our young corners. They didn't give up any big passing plays. There were bad appearances by all kinds of teams because, guess what? It is the first week! We have a new OC, stadium renovations, and the first sellout crowd in four years or so. They will get better. Some people act like ULL is a no one that we should have beaten by 30. Well, they won 9 games the last four years for a reason. This was a good game to have early because it presented challenges. Once we get healthy and our suspensions return we will see an increase. The sky isn't falling, yet. We are 1-0 which is what is important. Relax.

You and I are usually on the same page, teamchemistry15, but, with all due respect, I'm afraid I don't share your optimism. While the Ragin Cajuns do have a sparkling record, over the past four seasons, if I'm not mistaken, I heard the announcers say they haven't beaten a FBS school during that period. Also, the first game jitters thing didn't seem to bother most of our future opponents in their opening games. With the exception of Vandy (whom I think most of us expect to beat anyway), who lost to WKU by two points and So. Car. who squeaked by UNC, the rest of our future opponents appeared (from the scores at least) to be in mid-season form. Even U of L, who lost something like 14 players to the NFL, stood toe to toe with Auburn. So while, as always, I hope for a successful season culminating with a bowl victory, I am concerned, at this point in time.

I certainly thought we'd play better. Total collapse by both sides of the ball beginning late in the 3rd. The Ole Ball Coach is gonna run it directly down our throats next weekend.

Don't get me wrong, there is concern from me. But, in a classic Kentucky fan way, some seem to think we are doomed from one bad half of football. There is a lot to be fixed, and some of that will be fixed when players aren't suspended or injured/sick. I didn't see any major mistakes outside of the two big runs they busted. The mistakes I saw were things Stoops can correct. We seemed to give up on D in the second half. I bet that won't happen again.

I remember when our receivers dropped balls like they were hot potatoes. No. Glowing red hot charcoal lumps. Now we have receivers who can catch passes and get wide open. I mean wide, wide open downfield. Whoa! The OL did a much better job in giving our QB time to throw the ball than they did last 3 or so years. These receivers can make a fairly strong arm QB a first team All-American. Timmons was, well, Timmons. I love him, I thought our DL did well for the most part. Lewis was the real deal. Freshmen LB's played like freshmen linebackers and ULL was able to figure out how to use them ... kept getting caught in places where they couldn't make plays. Experience is a harsh teacher. We really missed our starters at LB more than anyone could have anticipated. More than I anticipated in any event. The ULL coach is the real deal. I'm afraid I was distracted by the hype on our QB's improvement. I'm old enough to realize that improvement comes in small steps after a certain level is reached ... two steps forward and one step back. His improvement on mechanics in one year's time was truly impressive. Seems ego and confidence are fragile things. Impaired short term memory is definitely a plus at the QB position. Body language did not instill confidence. I felt defeated in some of those close-ups. I can understand making this Pat's game to win or lose. Forcing him to work through adversity. I hope we prepare to move Barker into the game at SC and keep working with Reese to being him back up to speed. The ole ball coach will study this game film closely for sure. But then he has more than a few "holes" to shore up himself. I fully expect a cage fight at SC.

OK now that I have had some sleep and a chance to look back at the game, there are some good things happening. The bad was bad but can be resolved. Our receivers are really good. Our O line can pass block but did not run block very well. There were plays that they did good and other plays they were as confused as the young Ends we played on offense.

QB has to get better at hitting open receivers, Horton needs to be in the game along with Boom and Kemp and D Line needs to quit lining up 1 yard deep giving away that first yard. Lewis is the real deal. Elam did make some plays but there were several times the guard or center moved him yards down field. He has to hold the line. Mean Reggie Meant was solid. Westry will get there quickly. Tackling needs to improve in the open field. We need our 2 missing guys on D badly.

In my opinion, talent wise, this team is light years ahead of any we've seen at UK in several years, especially on offense. My biggest concern is what a game like last night's game can do to a team's psyche. Barely beating a team you expect to thrash can get into a team's head. A problem like that, if there is one, is much harder for a coaching staff to correct than physical mistakes, in my opinion.
