MLB Teams are Courting Kentucky Football Signee Matt Ponatoski

Quarterback Matt Ponatoski became the first player to sign to play for Will Stein at Kentucky. While combing through the UK playbook this spring, he’s preparing for his final baseball season at Cincinnati Moeller.

Last spring, he went through the college football recruiting process. Now, he’s going through something similar with Major League Baseball teams. The Top 50 high school baseball prospect has hosted 27 teams for visits, many of them in his home.

It's going to come down to these things. If he wants to give up football forever in favor of baseball, and if he can get a signing bonus from the draft that exceeds his college NIL, I don't see that happening with where he's projected in the draft. If he goes pro out of HS. He's toiling in the Minors for a good 4-5 years before possibly making an MLB roster. He will be living off a signing bonus and paltry minor league pay. He can make more in NIL over the next 3-4 years than he would toiling in the minors. I have to think that trends towards him coming to college.

He says he fully intends to play fb at UK. He says he enjoys playing fb more than baseball.
