Bush Hamdan leaves Mississippi State for Miami Dolphins

A former Kentucky assistant coach has found a new job. This one will require him to leave the other new job he just found. Yet another former Mark Stoops staffer is heading to the NFL.

After a cup of coffee at Mississippi State, former Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan will be joining Jeff Halfley‘s first coaching staff with the Miami Dolphins as a quarterbacks coach.

Not sure if this is a 'better' job. NFL >> CFB, for sure. However, from OC at an SEC school to QB Coach of the Dolphins - is that really a move up? I would think the money is pretty close unless the NFL pays their position coaches a whole lot more than I would expect. If he'd done well at MS St, I would think his next opportunity would be a HC job at a G5 or, maybe, P4 school. If he does his job well at Miami (and wouldn't his 'evaluation' depend as much on the OC as on him personally?), the next job would most likely be an OC in the NFL.

Personally, I thought he was the worst of Stoops' OC with the only possible exception being Scangarello. From what I understand about Scan, though, is he's very bright, designs some excellent plays, but is NOT a teacher/coach personality - more of a lab rat. I saw very little of Hamdan that I liked - way too many games felt like we had no game plan other than 'let's see what happens and we'll go from there', horrible feel for the game as it progressed, made almost no adjustments to defensive adjustments during a game, did not seem to be able to identify and exploit matchups, too many wasted plays every single game, too many Captain Obvious plays called that the defense knew exactly what was coming and demolished the play, too many 'WTF was THAT???' plays during most games. I could, but won't, go on.

Good luck and good riddance to Bush. I wish we'd canned him midway thru Year 1, honestly.
