Yenser named OL coach for the Dolphins

Wow. Was never impressed with him at UK, but landing a gig in the NFL is impressive and leads me to rethink my opinion. Maybe the talent level was awful and the OC calling plays didn’t recognize our OL strengths and weaknesses when he was here.

I don't know but this hire is a huge surprise to me.

I think OC Rich Scangarello was the big problem. I think he tried to be too much like a pro offense.

^fast, you may have something there. It sure seemed like everyone on offense was trying to do Chinese differential equations with Scan's offense. IIRC, it seemed like even the verbiage for the QB to call a play was something like 20 words (I seem to remember it being a ton of words for the QB to say and the other players to hear/understand/execute). The whole offense under Scan seemed like they were never really sure what they were supposed to do on any play and played very hesitantly as a result.

Yenser was considered a good coach, guys like Kinnard liked playing for him. However, that position group needed an ace recruiter to upgrade the room, he didn't fit that bill. I also think that is what keeps Anwar Stewart from becoming an elite coach, he is a really good coach but doesn't recruit well enough.

He definitely was not a recruiting guru while at UK. And, he may have been well-regarded as a coach, but the product on the field did not reflect well on his supposed coaching acumen.

As I said, it could have been the talent was severely lacking, the OC wasn't in sync with him, the players weren't responding to his coaching. But the OL was a huge weakness while he was here. Not saying
it was all his fault, just saying his room did not perform well.

^I wasn't contradicting your post, sorry if it came across that way. I was just giving my impression of Yenser's time here. I honestly am not sure if he wouldn't still be here if Saban had niot retired and made Wolford available. Kinnard made mention that he liked being coached up by Yenser more so than Wolford, evidently the latter likes to be in your face screaming a lot more. I think his unit looked like they got better year two to year one, however they needed a talent upgrade and he wasn't capable of that IMO.
