Who says this is QB1 next year. I think Stein himself stated we needed a couple of QB's. If he is QB one then Stein will roll with his decision. I am guessing once Cutter found out they were looking for another QB, he was no secure in have that spot and went to the negotiations table wanting more NIL. I am guessing he wanted more than he was worth for a Will Stein offense.
It will either be good or bad. We will find out this fall. But to question something like Stein let Cutter go (without us knowing if that is the case) or that Minchey is the future QB when portaling is happening as we discuss this is too early to tell. Either way we will have one tough schedule and are probably looking at the same or close to the same results as last year. Cannot expect too much in year 1. Takes a while to get your system implemented and culture change. GO BIG BLUE!Proverbs 25:24Comment

Not gonna go that far. I know Boley can rifle the ball 30+ yards down field while on the run....I haven't seen Minchey A) rifle a pass. Period. and B) throw on the run.
All the clips I've seen of him indicate "system QB." Maybe he does have the talent and ability to throw the deep ball, to rifle a pass between tight coverage, to throw on the run, to show perfect touch on deep passes, etc. So far, though, I haven't seen enough to make me think that he'll be any better than the guy UK just let walk (Boley).👍 1Comment

From what I've seen of Oregon's system, a QB doesn't need to 'rifle' a ball 30+ yards downfield. He needs to read the defense and throw accurately to whomever is open. The idea that a big arm is necessary to be a top college QB is false. If Minchey is accurate, a quick decision maker and can work the intermediate areas effectively (8-18 yards, imo), he'll be at least as good as Cutter. Now, Cutter had to deal with Hamdan and that certainly limited his performance. But, let's not forget, there were several games that the offense and Boley did precisely nothing for long, long stretches. Cutter had his moments and made some good plays but he wasn't AA by any stretch. He has potential and definitely showed it at times. But, I didn't perceive him as a no-brainer, can't-miss, top tier SEC QB going into this year. Had areas that needed a lot of improvement, imo.

Minchey is pretty much a complete unknown, though, as you stated. He may not be as good. But, Stein has a really strong track record of QB play, he HAS to be a better play caller than Hamdan (I know he won't call the plays but will be in the midst of creating game plans), the system HAS to be better than last year's - so that leads me to believe that Minchey should be at least if not better than Boley if he's the athlete/prospect everyone thought he was only a couple of years ago.👍 3Comment

I think you nailed it Jaxcat. I think Stein wanted more of a dual-threat QB that Boley.

I don't think they neglect the in state QB's. Truth is, with a few notable exceptions, KY high school QB's, while great in high school, have not met expectations when they get on the college field. Could Boley have been one of the exceptions. Absolutely. I wish him all the success at ASU. Do I think he fit the Stein mode of QB in his system. I don't think so, and that is why he moved on.Last edited by dencat; 01-07-2026, 06:22 PM.👍 3Comment

Bottom feeder QB? I doubt that is the case. I am willing to give him a chance, both Stein and Minchey👍 5Comment

What are you even rambling about? Minchey is the 11th ranked QB in the portal and ranked 52nd overall. He took 2 QB's ranked lower than that at Oregon and turned them into NFL starters.
