Supposedly, UofL's Brohm a strong candidate for MI job

Would he leave his alma mater, after coaching in the B10 previously, to go to MI with exceptionally high expectations every single year? Yes, he'd undoubtedly make more money, have more resources, unparalleled tradition, etc. He'd also be joining a tougher conference, for now anyway, to win, a fanbase that will not tolerate 2+ losses, especially if one is to the hated Buckeyes and unrelenting media coverage. Is an extra couple of million $ annually worth it (I'm assuming he's banking >$1M per year into investments/savings right now even if he's got a huge monthly nut to crack)? Almost certainly, he'd have a much shorter rope and, presumably, career coaching MI than UofL so the extra dough he makes for a few years would quickly get offset if he flames out after 4-5 years vs staying at UofL and keep drawing that big salary.

    Not a no-brainer, imo.

It's not about the money imo. It's about the real opportunity to win a national championship. That does not exist at UL. It does at Michigan.

I can't imagine he's anywhere close to their first choice. He averages a record of about 7-5 or 8-4 for his career. Doesn't seem like that would be too appealing to Michigan.

^EKY, I agree. But, most of the 'big' names have already found a new home or have said 'no', as I understand it. There was early speculation that Lincoln Riley might be someone to watch, but I haven't seen anything more about him leaving USC. DeBoer is into the 2nd round of the playoffs, so he's out. Campbell went to PSU. Don't think MI is interested in Brian Kelly. Several of the 'up-and-comers' have already accepted other jobs. So...who's left? Maybe promote from within. As far as 2nd tier HCs as P4 programs, Brohm is a prominent name and he's got some experience in the B10. They could do worse although, as you opined, he is nowhere near their first choice or 'ideal' candidate. But, transfer portal is 2 weeks away and they have no HC and have lost some assistants, too. Have to do something.

I read a few minutes ago that the interim coach is campaigning for the job.

I believe U of L is an excellent place to win it all. ACC can be won and your in. With some luck and peaking at the right time, they could win it.

^Strongly disagree. Getting to the playoffs from the ACC is probaly easier (although the conference champion didn't make it this year), but actually winning it? I don't think so. How does playing in a poor conference prepare you to play 2 or 3 teams from much tougher conferences? Obviously, the ACC has had champions before. But times have changed and that conference hasn't kept up with the SEC or B10.

Making it to the playoffs is one thing. Winning it all is completely different. This year the ACC champion didn't even make the playoffs (and there is a debate that they shouldn't have had any teams in the CFP) and last year they got beat 38-10 in the first round.

There is zero debate about what school has a better chance of winning it all moving into the future. And it's not Louisville.

No one really left. Maybe Lincoln Riley? But he hasn't exactly been tearing it up at USC. Michigan is a hot mess of a program and I'm not sure any of the major coaches want to go there.

As for Brohm, there could definitely be a worse choice. What he did at Purdue is pretty impressive, considering what he took over. But I agree...a very ho-hum hire for the maze and blue.

                      Brohm made the correct decision.
