Mullen at Miss St was similar success to Stoops here. So I’m not sold on him. Like others said Florida fired him.

Mullen was fired from Florida in year four. he went 29-9 in his first three seasons, with an 11-2 record in year 2. He was fired before the last game of the season after going 5-6 in year four. I think recruiting was his downfall there. Could be a great coach if he can have great recruiters on his staff. He has UNLV at 10-2 this year and in their Conference Championship game.
That would make me happy. If they throw Mitch in with Stoops and the rest of the coaching staff then we might be able to have time to build something serviceable year 1 of the new staff. Dan Mullen not too sure about. Will Stein I hear good things. Mullen did not do so well his last stop IIRC."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John Prine👍 1Comment

As much as I would jump at either. After a little thought, I think Hartline would be the better choice of the two for right now. He would have strong Ohio recruiting ties, He is an ace recruiter at that, HIs brother Mike could be the QB coach and or OC (in name only mostly) He's coached some of the best receivers to come out of College in the past several years. Would need a homerun DC hire, as would Stein, but I think Hartline is a more established name right now that offensive talent would flock to. Only problem with him is that I think he would be gone in 2-3 years for greener pastures. If not sooner, especially if the Miami Dolphin's job opens up at some point."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John PrineComment

He was fired because he recruited too many transfers and not enough HS players and the boosters didn't like that. he had top 15 teams three straight years. Now with the portal I think he's the best choice.👍 1Comment

I agree that Hartline is the best choice.

Not saying I’m for or against hiring Mullen. But whoever is our next coach, if he is as successful as Mullen was at Starkville we’d be very happy. He had by far the best run there in their history and it’s a hard place to win at.Comment

This is my gut taking here. I believe Stein and Hartline are 1a and 1b right now. I believe Mullen will be the safety if those 2 are not interested because they need to get this thing done because early signing period is December 3 - 5.
We will have a coach by the end of the day today or tomorrow.Comment

I would take Gruden but that's a pipe dream...
Reality is I have been so frustrated with Stoops the past 5 years or so I just don't watch much college football so really no IDEA who's who at this point in the college football coaching world....Comment

That would really, really surprise me. Are you assuming a lot of work took place prior to Sunday? This is my gut taking here. I believe Stein and Hartline are 1a and 1b right now. With the early signing period starting Wednesday, I think it has to move that fast. Cal left on Tuesday and Pope was hired on Thursday and that was after whiffing on a couple of guys. Now, the rumors were circulating for a few days prior to Cal leaving, but it was still a handful of days or less.
Mitch, with all of his faults, is no dummy. I am sure he had his ways of gauging interesting in his top few guys before Sunday. the days of bringing candidates to campus are basically over. I bet by now, Mitch, or someone representing UK has already reached out to all the possible candidates and they are zeroing in on the top one. I sincerely think by tomorrow night, we have a new coach.Comment

During Stoops best stretch maybe. In 13 seasons in the SEC Mullen had a 103-61 record and was 54-52 in the SEC Only 3 losing seasons. Stoops on the other hand had an 82-80 record (including the vacated wins) and a 30-68 SEC record with six losing seasons. So I don't really classify that as being too similar. Like I've stated before, Mullen would have us as a solid middle of the pack SEC team going to bowls regularly, but not likely much of a playoff contender. He would differ from Stoops in that he wouldn't let coaching decisions cost us a couple of games every year or the team wouldn't throw their annual clunker or two and get destroyed by a team we should beat."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John PrineComment
