Do you think we will know anything definite by next Monday evening regarding Stoop's future at UK.? I sure hope so. My guess, short of another complete beat down by UL, Barney will not fire Stoops. Even then, I'll not be surprised if he tries to keep Mark for another year.

If we win Sat., then there will be a bowl game. Therefore, the end of the season could stretch into late Dec. or even early Jan. Just my opinion, but I really believe it's already been determined that he'll be back next season.Philippians 4:11-4:13 -
It sounds as if he plans on being back next season.

If Mitch retires / leaves, we might have new circumstances with Stoops. Or maybe Mitch rumors are the smoke for both to leave at the same time? My guess is the decisions are already made and probably the team does not even know what is going on yet. I would think this is Administration discussing with Mitch and maybe Stoops and it stops there for now.Proverbs 25:24Comment

I have wanted him gone since early this year. However, if we beat UofL, go to a bowl and finish with 7 wins, it really wasn't nearly as bad of a season as it felt. It would get you fired at LSU and a few other places, but we did play a pretty tough schedule.Comment

I think he's back regardless of the outcome on Saturday. There is a small part of me that believes another one-sided beatdown might change some minds, but a 'reasonable' loss or better and I think he returns. I expect some turnover on the staff if he returns and there will probably be one or more unexpected departures as there normally is.
With him presumably a lame duck HC in 2026, I can't imagine we'll be very successful in the transfer portal this offseason. And, looking at the roster, we're going to need a TON of players who can play to even have a prayer at .500 next year. The defense should be only a little worse, but I think our offense will take a big step back (if that's even possible) as we lose basically all of the OL, most likely the top 2 RBs, best WR and a couple of other contributors, at least one solid TE (not sure if Boyer stays), and most likely all of our QB depth (no way both Ward and Saunders stick around, imo). That's a lot of holes to fill for a staff that will be perceived as on their way out after the season.Comment

(I'm assuming you mean "If" not "Of") Only way I see Barney firing Stoops is we lose to UL by a big bunch. Even then, I expect Barney to try and retain Mark. It will take a Joker/Vandy fan/donor revolt to force him to change.👍 1Comment

I know some people hate this thought process, but beating 3-8/2-6 Florida and a 5-6/1-6 Auburn was the worst thing to happen for the situation and we would have been better off losing at least one, if not both of those games. Beating those two teams screwed any chance of Mitch moving on from Stoops and we will be having the same conversation again next year. This is a vicious cycle of mediocrity to below mediocrity over the last 4 years. 23-26/9-23 in that 4 year period.
They need to get a loan for $37 million and send Stoops on his way. They have $9 million budgeted per year to pay their head coaching position. Take his annual buyout ($6.75 million) and add it to a new coach making $6 million annually and you now have $12.75 million budgeted for the head coaching position. So, $3.75 million is the difference. Add 5,000 less fans per game (on the conservative side) x $100/person per game between tickets and food, and for 6 games, you get $3 million. Now you're just $750,000 short per year of paying that loan back over 5 years. When you have a $180 million budget, finding that additional $750k should not be an issue.👍 2Comment
