He's old and tired and been here long enough.

He's definitely made some missteps. But, overall, the athletic department is much better off since he's been at UK from pretty much every aspect. Better facilities, more revenue, many of the minor sports have seen program-best years and increased attendance. Men's BB and the football program have waxed and waned a bit, especially in the most recent few years, but, both programs have had very strong years and have brought in a ton of cash.

Love him or hate him - he's done an overall good job. The FB program needs to make a permanent move into the 2nd tier of the SEC (thought we might be there just a few years ago) and the BB team needs to make deeper runs in the NCAA (which we did fine last year). But, neither program is a complete disaster at this point. And, certainly early Calipari and Stoops raised their programs to levels not seen at UK in a while.

I didn't see this coming. If true, I wonder who will take his place? I hope they're fb oriented.

That's the word. It will be a big loss for UK.

Replacement will likely be Dewayne Peevey.

I pretty much agree with this. I do think that his lack of jumping into NIL early hurt the rise of football. Stoops saw it but when he made his "pony up" comment everyone got bent out of shape on it.

I'm a fan of Mitch. Twice I had issues with my tickets that we've had since the 70's. I emailed the athletic department and both times someone from his office called me before the day was over. The first time I almost lost my tickets and they worked with to get seats and they turned out to be better than where I was sitting.

Agree it would be a big loss but couldn't disagree more on Peevey. He's been AD at a school without a football program. And DePaul's basketball team has stunk practically ever since he got there. Barnhart has lots of former assistants that are ADs at power 4 schools, including the SEC. We would need someone with that kind of experience.

I agree about Peevey. He seems to be a bb only guy. I hope we get someone who, at least, treats fb as well as Mitch has.

You're not disagreeing with me. I am not advocating for Peevey. I'm saying who I think they will choose.

Gotcha. But I'm not sure about that either. Peevey was Cal's man. And Cal ain't there no more.

Word is Peevey or Marc Hill.

Never liked Barnhart as an AD , made 2 worst hires at UK in my lifetime. Joker and Gilespie. Kyra Elzy a close 3rd. He allowed Cal to carve out his own personal fiefdom in basketball with zero accountability to anyone in Athletics Department for years. He resisted NIL initially and was tardy in setting up an infrastructure for its implementation , a mistake we are still paying for. His last 2 coaching contracts in basketball a n d football don't really need rehashing.. Thanks for your service Mitch and Vaya Con Dios.
