LSU, worst job in college football

LSU trying to worm itself from paying Kelly. I hope that every coach takes notes on this university. The worst coaching location in NCAA. 12-0 or out the door you go.

I'm not so sure about that. Extremely fertile local recruiting, huge support from admin and fans - all good things. Now, as at many, many other schools, with all of the pluses there are minuses, namely, extremely high expectations. Their fans know that they should almost every year compete for the SEC championship and, ultimately, the NC. Kelly was an odd duck completely out of his element culture-wise. Throw in the preseason hype about a playoff run coupled with an inept offense (even with a preseason Heisman hopeful at QB) and more losses than expected and the crazy Cajuns aren't happy. With LSU's inherent advantages (I'd group GA, FL, OSU, TX, et al, in this category, also), there is no excuse to winning less than 9 games. And there is definitely no excuse to being run out of your home stadium by an SEC opponent.

It's a tough job, for sure. And their fans may be more impatient than others at their level. But, as we've seen with many UK fans when discussing Stoops' salary, if you're paying your HC $9+M annually, he better win and win often. If you recall, until OSU won the NC recently, there was serious talk whether Daye would survive another season due to his inability to beat MI. So, 11-1 and playoff appearances are fine, but, dang, you GOTTA BEAT MICHIGAN! So, LSU fans are not without peers in the over-the-top, unrealistic expectations group.

From all accounts, Kelly is a complete and total jerk. If they can find a loophole out for some kind of firing with cause, let it happen.

Shouldn't they have done a little research on Kelly to know that he was a "complete and total jerk"?

That's their fault for hiring someone of that ilk.

I am not buying that LSU is the worst job in College Football.

Nor am I. I think LSU is probably a top 5/10 job in the country. And yeah, it is win or get out. Much like UK basketball, they expect results. Kelly was a horrible fit and should never have been on their radar.

I’d say he probably is a jerk. But still most of us live in a world where contracts mean something. I’m not sure why that’s not the case in big time big money sports.

Micah Parsons is an example. Maybe he was performing at a market value above what he was being paid. But he signed the contract. Shouldn’t he finish the contract then get paid more in his next one because he’s proven his value? Contracts mean nothing.

And if Kelly gets fired for cause it’s bull hockey. He was fired for losing.

I'd say that they never thought they'd be paying that kind of buy out.

Who enters into a relationship of this sort thinking that failure will be the outcome?

                Probably no one.

I hope they go bankrupt and other schools get the message and stop doing these insane buy out clauses.

They did fire a coach who had just won them a championship. They don’t seem to bright down there.

While Orgeron did win them a National Championship, they went 5-5 and 6-6 the next two years. Good for LSU for recognizing that a change needed to be made at that time.
