Dabo is a rare instance when a position coach got promoted to the top job without ever being a coordinator and it worked out.Comment

You're question is a bit hazy.
What exactly are you asking me to explain about an opinion that I gave? lol
Or is is that you think Kentucky is going to be willing to pay Sumrall more than LSU, Florida and Auburn AND Jerry Jones' Arkansas would be willing to pay if they wish to hire him whilst SIMULTANEOUSLY paying off Stoops (should it come to that)?
You think that Kentucky should pay Sumrall over $9M per year? That is insanity defined if that is the case."How dare you hold me to a standard!"

Do you think ANYBODY should pay Sumrall that? My point was that affording it isn't or shouldn't be the problem. Stoops is/was one of the top 10 highest paid coaches. and we were or are prepared to continue paying that if he stays. No, I don't think UK will get in a bidding war for Sumrall, if that's what you're thinking I'm saying. and No, I don't agree he's worth paying that kind of money now, either. but I also don't think any of those other schools are going to pay that for a guy with no Power Conference experience just yet either. I think IU hit the retard button by giving Cignetti $11 mil a year after a year and a half of success. At least let the guy prove he can sustain it for a period of time first.

I think it is insane to pay these coaches these crazy sums unless they are generating huge revenue streams for the program.

UK should not pay Stoops that big money especially if he can't make a bowl game. If Kentucky can't make the pay out as promised, that tells me that the Stoops hire has been a failure from a revenue standpoint.
If UK wants Sumrall, I foresee that being a big pay out because it seems as though quite a few teams are discussing him. It may be all talk and media bluster. I don't know.
Saban was worth that big payout. A few others have been worth big paydays. I think Cignetti may be worth it. He may be one of the few. Time will tell. He's poised to take them to the National Championship. We'll see if he can do it. If he does, he's worth the paycheck. To know for certain, I'd have to know what revenue having Cignetti has brought to the school. I'm assuming that it has been substantial (see Google below/plus the Mark Cuban affiliation). If Cignetti is bringin hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, then, 11 Million dollars is a great investment. It would seem that the Cuban/Cignetti bond has resulted in large investment in IU as an institution. With that in mind, perhaps Indiana paying Cignetti 11 Million dollars is a shrewd investment that has already paid off and has the potential to pay off well in the future in and outside of the Football Program.
Has Stoops brought in that kind of revenue with his two ten win seasons, his booster relationships, his inability to recruit, utilize or develop quarterbacks, his bourbon business affairs and his lack of CFP appearances? I can't answer that. I somehow doubt it, though.
Cignetti has defeated the teams that he should. He's defeated teams that were ranked ahead of IU at the time in Oregon. He has defeated teams that, heretofore, IU has no reason to believe that they should and no tradition of defeating. He's proven that he can do big things at IU.
Stoops proved that he could do medium things at Kentucky. Not big things. He hasn't defeated Bama or UGa. Had he done that, making him a top 10 paid coach makes sense. He hasn't. It doesn't matter to me that he's coaching at Kentucky. Others have proven that it's possible to win big at historically/traditionally lesser programs. Stoops, in my opinion, feasted on lesser programs and programs that were down. I don't care what Florida has been ranked since Kentucky started defeating them.
Stoops has proven time and time again that he doesn't have the imagination and vision to win big at UK. He's proven that he can be mid-tier. That's great for UK. It does not, however, merit Top Ten payouts. But this is UK and we are a fearful program. Always scared that we'll lose instead of going for it and winning. That's also what happened to Calipari. He became more concerned with losing than winning. Hence, the prevent offense stupidity.
I don't know what the other schools are willing to pay. I do know that most of them have money that Kentucky does not seem to have. If we had that big booster money, Stoops would have been let go last year. That Stoops is still here after a 4 win "anomoly" tells us that Kentucky doesn't have that mad money.
NIL spend tells us that we don't have that mad money. It also tells us that Stoops hasn't spent well or wisely. It's a weakness. We go after the crumbs from other schools where a school like Bama cherry picks the best from other schools.
All of this is, of course and to be obvious, just my opinion.
Bottom line, if there is a bidding war for Sumrall, Kentucky doesn't have the money to make that happen. There is also no reason to believe that Kentucky will ever have the resources or organizational structure or commitment to put behind football that would bring Kentucky Football to the level of Bama, Ohio State, UGa, Oregon and that group of dominant football programs that, now, seems to include IU.
From Google:
A big-time winning football program can bring substantial revenue to a university through sources like ticket sales, media rights, and corporate sponsorships, which can generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually. This revenue not only funds the football program itself but also provides financial support for other university sports, and can even boost the university's brand and public image. For example, top programs can bring in over $200 million in annual revenue, with some schools having football revenue that far outstrips other sports.
Primary revenue streams- Ticket sales: This is often the largest source of revenue for successful programs, driven by high demand for games.
- Media rights: The value of television contracts and media deals is a massive revenue generator for elite football programs.
- Corporate sponsorships and partnerships: Winning programs attract lucrative sponsorship deals from corporations.
- Donations: Successful programs often receive significant financial support from donors, which is included in the university's athletic revenue.
- Postseason bowls: Invitations to high-profile postseason bowl games can provide a significant financial boost, especially for less established programs.
- Funding other sports: The revenue from football and, to a lesser extent, basketball, often subsidizes other, less profitable sports programs at the university.
- Supporting facilities: The profits can be reinvested into improving athletic facilities, though there can be a point of diminishing returns from spending too much on facilities.
- Brand enhancement: A successful program can enhance the university's overall image and public profile, which may have indirect benefits in areas like student and faculty recruitment.
Also, from Google:
Mark Cuban donated a significant amount to Indiana University football, which is being coached by Curt Cignetti. The donations are a result of a bond between Cuban and Cignetti, according to CBS Sports. Cuban, a fellow Indiana alumnus, reportedly connected with Cignetti over their shared upbringing.- Cuban's involvement: The business mogul made a large donation to support the football program after meeting head coach Curt Cignetti.
- Shared background: Cuban stated that he and Cignetti bonded over their common upbringing.
- Support for Indiana football: Cuban has donated to his alma mater before, including gifts to create a sports media and technology center and to support the club rugby team, as detailed by CBS Sports.
- Cignetti's success: Cignetti has quickly turned the Indiana program around, resulting in a new contract and renewed national interest in the team.

Being a defensive coach does not eliminate someone from consideration...it's very short sighted and reactive to Stoops. Current defensive coaches in the top 15:
#3 TAMU - Mike Elko
#5 UGA - Kirby Smart
#7 Oregon - Dan Lanning
#8 Texas Tech - Joey McGuire
#9 Notre Dame - Marcus Freeman
#11 Oklahoma - Brent Ventables
#12 BYU - Kalani Sitake
#13 Vanderbilt - Clark Lea
#15 Utah - Kyle Whittingham
6 of the 9 teams listed are in the top 12 in the nation in ppgLast edited by bthaunert; 3 weeks ago.Comment
