More and More better Football coaching options for those guys ready to move up. No way we get our first choice (unless Mitch is looking for something no one else would touch). Do we see Sumerall move from Tulane to Baton Rouge?
A friend of mine who's a huge LSU fan (and an alum), but who does not have any inside knowledge, said the boards are leaning towards Sumrall, the Memphis coach or the USF coach for now. The fan sites he reads want 'young, aggressive' coaches not old school. Sound familiar?

I'm surprised that Sumrall would be their first choice. I would think they would look for a more high-profile coach.
I think with Sumrall, he's in their backyard already, knows the state, the HS recruiting, the fans. Plus, he's done a very good job at each of his stops. LSU has already tried the 'blue blood' candidate, maybe they're ready for someone younger, hungrier, more pleasant, etc. Not that LSU is interested, but, on the surface, I can understand why they would be.
I expect that before everyone is hired for 2026 the going wage will be $15 million per year.
Yeah, it's going be interesting to see how contracts move after this season. Some schools are going be spending crazy money on buy-outs and current contracts.
I do feel with all of this movement, some schools are going end up regretting moving on from their current coaches. The lesser schools might be looking way down their wish list after the big dogs pick up theirs. Unfortunately, I think that could impact UK and could see Mitch using that as an excuse to keep Stoops another year.
If LSU ends up paying $53M to Kelly and turns around and hires someone for $15M, they deserve any misery that may come their way. Willingly not only repeating a questionable/stupid decision but actually upping the ante is profoundly dumb.

Totally agree. I think we are going to see salaries for major college football and basketball coaches flatten out. They need to use as much as that money as possible for revenue sharing.

It will but not yet. This year will be about desperate emotions. At some point actual numbers are really going to matter. You gotta remember that today’s fans demand immediate satisfaction. Just look at UK basketball, no amount is too much. UK just as well hire a successful FCS coach and know that they’ll move on if successful. Football will forever be on the back burner at UK. Oh it will need to be good enough to sucker in season ticket sales but success will always be short lived. Considering this last fact, a new coach for 2026 is a must for ticket sales. Anyone purchasing season tickets for 2026 with Stoops at head coach would be puzzling.

Considering the Governor is involved with the firing and hiring, expect a massive amount of offer for the next coach. Kiffin is number one and multiple universities want him. What will it take to get him? $15 million I suspect.
