He did have performance clauses in his contract. It used to be he got extended an extra year if we won seven games. now he gets bonuses based on if we make a bowl with 7 wins ($100,000) up to $800,000 if we win a national championship."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John PrineComment

I'd rather them blow up Commonwealth Stadium and make it a freakin' parking lot than hire a new coach with an expensive, bloated contract with zero accountability.
There should be no guaranteed contracts.
There should be no buyouts.
It should be build a program and start winning.
Expectation should be to win more than 50% of games.
That's a pretty low expectation when you have two to three gimmes each year.
Stoops should own 9 Million Dollars a year to Kentucky for these past two years.
If there is a one year extension for making a bowl, why isn't there a one year subtraction for each year he missed a bowl?
There should be a loser clause. If you start losing games as if that's your whole reason for existence, you get fired.
Stoops has never been a GREAT coach. He was, however, serviceable. He seems too dumb to understand that he coaches a boring style of football.
I still say that his best seasons came on the back of a down middle SEC. Now, he can't even beat Billy Napier. Stoops can't even beat the SEC coaches who are being fired left and right for being perennial losers.
Kentucky Football has the lowest of low expectations.
Literally, we can't fire a coach for losing when that coach can't defeat the other teams within the SEC who are firing their coaches for being losers.
Stoops record is 36-66 in the SEC.
36 and 66!!!
Somehow, that's worth $9 Million bucks a year.

Unfortunately, coaches have all the leverage when it comes to contracts. How you can avoid being in the situation that you're in is to only have contracts that are never longer than 5 years in length and the buyout is paid out over the life of the contract. We are in the mess we are in because Stoops was signed to an extension in 2022 that was for 10 years. That should NEVER happen. If you're assuming a coach needs back-to-back bad years to get fired, that leaves 3 years max for the buyout. In our current situation, we would have owed him $6.75 million annually over the next 3 years. Kentucky could afford that no problem.👍 1Comment

I think we all wish that could be the case, but unfortunately never will be, That being said, I've never understood why losing more than you win, (and largely as a result of your own blunders) isn't a reason to fire someone "for cause"I'd rather them blow up Commonwealth Stadium and make it a freakin' parking lot than hire a new coach with an expensive, bloated contract with zero accountability.

Preach. Coaches are literally hired to win games. If you don't win enough, you should be fired with cause. Period. Whatever agent first did this deserves a spot in the coaching HOF.👍 1Comment

I don't know if he was first agent to pull it off, but Jimmy Sexton is the most powerful man in CFB. Except for maybe the commissioners of the SEC and B1G.Comment

Yep, he's the big dog. He has just about every big time coach. He has like 7 or 8 of the top 10 highest paid coaches in college football.👍 1Comment
