Aaron Torres reports that Napier is like that little feller from India, GHANDI.

More and more major programs looking for coaches this year.

        Florida
        Penn State
        Arkansas
        VTech
        Oregon State
        Oklahoma State
        Stanford

And probably a handful of Auburn, South Carolina, UNC, Florida St., Wisconsin, Clemson, Boston College, maybe Mich St., and who knows who else... And then you have the secondary teams whose coaches leave for those openings, like Ole Miss if Kiffin leaves for Florida.

There's a case to be made for holding on to Stoops one more year so we're a bigger fish in a smaller pond in the coaching carousel. If not, the sooner we're openly searching the better, or the top guys, including Sumerall, will have deals in place ready to sign the day the season ends. I think if Barnhart somehow backchannels a commitment from Sumerall then you make the move this year, otherwise I don't know that we want to be getting the 10th(?) best coach of the cycle. You're probably looking at a promising coordinator in that case, and as I've said in other threads I believe in the transfer portal age you really want to get a head coach who can bring a core of players with them and have you competitive year one (Cignetti being the best example of this).

The argument that we must keep Stoops another year because there are too many openings this year and we will not get a good coach is dubious at best. I predict next year will be just as bad. In this era of big money your going to see this type of turnover every year. The question we must ask is can we hire anyone better than Stoops, at this point in his career that answer seems obvious.

Could be. If we're hiring a coordinator then most likely next season is at least as bad as it will be under Stoops. Yes that new coach will get a year to develop their program and system, but we're also going to be doing this with the coordinator we manage to hire, which is very different than the most promising coordinator out there. If we wait a year maybe we're more in line for the top options, coordinator or otherwise, especially if Barnhart is more willing next year to fire Stoops during the season than he is this year.
